Alleged Fraud. Frederick Marshland Had field has been arrested on a charge of being an accessory to the larceny of one thousand sheep. The case arises out of the uncompleted sale of Abbotsford Station, on the Tauren river, Wairarapa, by J. Qilligan to Hadfield, father of accused, who, after making the purchase, attempted to draw out of it, an action being then bronght against him in the Supreme Court to compel him to carry out bis contract, but through other causes he was, however, subsequently obliged to relinquish the property. It is now alleged that he sold one thousand sheep, which were included in the purchase of the Nation, although the Now Zeland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company bad a lien upon them. Surveyors’ Institute. A meeting of surveyors and engineers was ■ held last night in connection with the formation of a New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Civil Engineers. The report of the acting secretary was read, and the report referred to the advantages which the institution would confer on the profession. The meetingwas adjourned, to afford time to procure information in connection with the subject. BALOLUTHA, April 9.

Contribution to a Good Project. At a meeting of the committee of the Olutba Agricultural and Pastoral Society lost night it was agreed to contribute £2O to the preliminary expenses of the Dunedin committee for the export of frozen meat.
