POETRY.

THE BANOHER'B OPINION. By Wyoming Kit. I know it's a foot, parson, jiat as ye nay, That sin is a gatherin' force An' inoreasin' around ub day arter day, Which is rough on your business of course; But I beg to remark, in pasain' along, That it ain't all onteide o' your ohuroh, An' thar's thousands a ainging tho piety ■ong Thot's agwine ter git left in the lurch. My oows an' Bill Murray's got mixed up, somehow, Into one big promiscuous flock, An' strayed from the ranches, when Bill left tho plough, An' went to look srter the stock. They's bin strayin' six months ; an' right thar again My side of the argyment wineWhen Murray come home my cows hed no calves, While his'n war all blessed with twins ! " 'Twar a curious freak o' natur," he said, " An' almos* past human belief :" An' then he looked puzzled, an' scratohed of his head, But I knowed 'twar the freak of a thief. 'Jwar no use to fly 'roun' an' liok up a muss An' try his ka-raok-ter to smirch ; Fur I am a wicked, cantankerous cuss, While he's the head deacon in church. As I said at the start, agin I repeat Thet sin rises up all around, An' sometimes appears to spring up j:st as wheat Springs spontaneous up from the ground. But it isn't confined to outsiders, like me ? Your ohuroh folks don't all toe the mark j An* thar's just as good men floatin' out in the sea As ye'll find aboard piety's ark.
