ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The Board mot on April 4th. Present, the chairman and all the members. The reports of the surveyor and foreman of the works were read and considered. A deputation from Papanui waited upon the Board relative So the formation of the Canal Reserve road, and also to protest against the sum on the estimates for No. 5 ward. A letter was received from the engineer to the Drainage Board relative to bridge on Shirley road. The clerk was instructed to write to the engineer, requesting that the ditch on the west side of the Canal Reserve road may be attended to at once, as it is necessary for the drainage of the road. A letter was received from the local Board of Health re roads in Horner’s township, regretting that they had no power to compel the Board to apply the necessary remedy. Resolved—“ That a deputation of the Board wait upon the Drainage Board to urge upon them the necessity of its doing something in the matter of drainage." Messrs Johns, Pantbam, and Andrews, saw the Board relative to the crossing at Stewart’s Gully. It was arranged that the surveyor should visit the place and confer with them. Meesrs Wall, Johns, and Duncan, waited upon the Board relative to the road at Belfast. Resolved—“ That the Board will carry out the work originally agreed upon, the road to be first dedicated.” Circular was received from the Manawatu County Council. A letter was received from the Heathcote Road Board, asking if the Board will advocate the increase of the number of members. Resolved—- “ That this Board fully concurs in the necessity of the measure, and is of opinion that the number for suburban Boards should be increased to nine (9). “A letter was received from the Selwyu County County notifying the Board that the decision of the ratepayers re stoppage of road at Dudley Creek was confirmed ; also enclosing order for the road to bo sold. A letter was also received informing the Board that the amount arising from the sale of the road will bo supplemented by a sum of £SO towards building bridge at Styx. The Board resolved that the sum arising from the sale of the road be placed to a separate account, to bo called the Styx bridge account; and that amount will be appropriated towards building the said bridge in terms of arrangement made by Solwyn County Council. The clerk was instructed to advertise the stoppage of the road by Dudley Creek. Accounts to the amount of £237 2s 7d wore passed, and. ordered to be paid.
