ROAD BOARDS.
HEAT HOOTS. The above Board met on Thuradoy last at 10 a.m. Present —Messrs F. Jones (chairman), T. Bruce, W, Attwood, J, O’NoiiJ, and Geo. Dryden. Ho road to B.S. 21, it was resolved—" That notice bo given to Mr S. Fisher of the Board’s intention to open tho road from Colombo bridge to tho road between 8.8. 49 and 21, so that he may remove any obstructions off tho road.” He footpath by Bast belt. Deferred. Me assessment of district. On tho motion of Mr Attwood, seconded by Mr Bruce, the olerk was allowed 4540 for tho assessing, Messrs O’Neill and Dryden dissenting. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Bruce, seconded by Mr Attwood—“ Thtt a rate of Is in the £ be struck on the rateable property in tho district, pay able in one sum, on tho 26th day of April, 1881.” The clerk was instructed to give the necessary notices. Tho clerk reported the receipts to bo £3O 3s Id. It was decided to advertise for tenders to keep a number of tho roads in tho district in repair till the end of the year. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :—Mr 8. Purse re Tramway, asking if the Board were aware of the oause of delay, and, if possible, would they urge that it should bo commenced at once. To be informed that as far as this Board is concerned they have done all they can. Tho chairman wae requested to see Mr J. E.Brown on the subject. Sydenham Borough Council: Declining to contribute towards tho cost of gas lamp at present, but granting permission lor its erection. Mr J, O. Anstiss rc drains by 8.8. 104. To be attended to. Mr J. Harper ere fence across road in B.S. 54. To be informed that the Board will not interfere until the road is formed. After passing accounts for £l6O 7s 6i, the Board adjourned to Thursday, the 14th inst. UPPER ASHBURTON. Tho ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was hold lust Monday, The overseer’s report for the last month was then read and considered. Tenders were opened and accepted for the works advertised. Mr Hugh Bonnie interviewed tho Board, asking for a continuation of tho road past his place to the railway crossing, to do which the Board agreed. The olerk mentioned that ho had been asked by several ratepayers to hove the road formed leading from Reserve 1551 South Hinds into the road North Hinds, through Steele’s paddock. Ho had also been asked to get two or three planks to form a footbridge to enable children to get across the Wakanui creek, on the belt, and two or three crossings on the Yaletta road required repairs. Ttie overseer was requested to see what was best to be done. Tenders were then opened for the lease of the Road Board reserve at-.d cottage, and resulted as follows—William Meharry, £3l per annum, accepted. Correspondence was read from tho Colonial Secretary, granting extension of time for Valuation List to Ist April. Accounts were then passed, and the Board adjourned. MANDEYILLE AND RANOIORA. The monthly meeting of this Board was hold on Friday. Present—Copt. Parsons (chairman), Messrs Duncan, Sansom, and Edwards. Letters wore read from Mr C. Whitefoord, R.M., relative to closing road on section 319 a, stating his judgment and order to stop same had been entered upon map, which could be seen on application to the olerk to the Bench. The olerk stated he bad received the map in question. From Mr H. Daniels, Woodend, asking the Board to put in pipes across the road at his store ; for leave to erect horse posts, and requesting the Board to raise the footpath near his store. The surveyor was instructed to see and arrange with Mr Daniels. From Mr J. O. Boys, asking for improvements to road off Easterbrook's road. Ordered to be attended to. From Bangiora Borough Council, intimating intention to put • culvert across East belt, as bad been agreed to between the surveyor of the Council and tho Board. Approved. From Eaiapoi Borough Oounoil, asking assistance towards shingling Beaoh road. Owing to the state of its funds it was decided the Board could not entertain the matter, but if the Council would do the work the Board would pay its share when in a position to do so. A circular from the Manawatu Council was received and vend. From Mr T. Wilson, Tarnbank, asking for a contribution towards clearing Taranaki Creek at the Waikuku. The Board having declined every similar application, decided this could not be entertained. From Mr T. McDonald, calling attention to a culvert across Gresson’s road, asking the Board to open the same. It was decided to reply that the obstruction would be removed. From Mr O. Tyler, for the situation of ranger. Accepted. Mr B. Evans waited upon and asked the Board to point out the natural watercourses through his section at Fern side, and asked to have the aide channels filled in. Consideration of the application was deferred for want of funds. Accounts, £4B 4s lOd, were passed. The Board then adjourned. BAKAIA. A meeting of this Board was hold on Monday, 28th March. All members present. The following letters were read—From Mr D. Jobson, stating that in consequence cf the whole of tho electors in the Coloridee district north of tho Bakaia being struck off the roll, a public meeting had been held at the East Malvern Boad Board office, when it was resolved to take immediate stops, and to ask the adjoining Boad Boards to co-operate for for the purpose of securing tho registration of all persons qualified to vote. The clerk stated that he had already forwarded to the Begistration Officer full particulars of all persons in the Bakaia Boad District who are entitled to have their names retained on the roll, and ho had been informed that these names have boon inserted in the supplementary roll. Tho Board considered this satisfactory, and ordered that Mr Jebson he thanked and informed what course had been taken in the matter ; also that members of the Board will endeavor to procure the registration of any person whose name may bo found to ho still omitted. Prom Messrs Joynt and Percoval, informing tho Board that tho conveyance of tho land required for the road round tho Dunsandel library was now completed. The surveyor was ordered to hove the formation and metalling of this road put in hand at once. From Messrs Wynn Williams and Deaoon enclosing agreement signed by Mr John Cordy with reference to the new road running through his property. It was resolved that Mr Dobson be requested to survey this road as agreed upon. The surveyor reported that in consequence of the large amount of traffic from the Brockley coal mine it would be necessary to snpplement the amount voted for keeping the Wairiti Yalley road in repair. Agreed to. Tho surveyor was ordered to have a foot plank placed at Brownlee’s creek, and to repair the crossing ; also to have tho well deepened at the surveyor’s office.. It was resolved to build a house for the surveyor’s residence, and to call for tenders for that and other works, returnable at tho next meeting. After settling accounts the Board adjourned. KOWAI. The usual monthly meeting of tho Kowai Boad Board was held at the Boad Board office on Friday, the Ist day of April, 1881. Present —Messrs Ensor (chairman), Bruore, Coleman, Bristowe, and Mathers. Mr Hadleir waited on the Board respecting Dock Creek, offering to indemnify* the Board against any action should they take a straight course instead of following tho winding of the creek through section 2766. The chairman and Mr Coleman decided to inspect the Government plans, and see if they indicated the straight line as a reserve, and if not, then tho natural course of the creek must be followed. Messrs Toppin and Morton again waited on tho Board re purchasing a road tbroagh sections 1976, 2013, 2051, 2054, 1982, 2278. The chairman decided to wait upon Mr McFarlano and ascertain if any and what arrangement can be made with him. Mr Thomas Hanna applied for a pipe culvert to bo placed on the Mount Grey road. Tho Board offered the usual conditions of supplying the pipes, and applicant to put them in position. This he refused. The Board decided that they would not make this case an exception from the usual rule. Mr Kelland waited on the Board re diversion of road leading to tho water-hole downs. Mr Coleman and tho surveyor to wait on Mr Innis in reference thereto. Loburn road—Tho surveyor was instructed to arrange to meet tho Ashley Bond Board surveyor, and inspect tho above road and report thereon. Boll’s road—Surveyor authorised to call for tenders for six 9in culverts on tho above road. The surveyor was instructed to attend to tho following works To wait on Mr Ashworth and ascertain what is required at Wornall’s corner. To ascertain (amount of shingling required on Ashworth’s Bauch road, and report next mooting. To boo tho dork, B.M. Court, on Thursday, and inquire re costs in
Wilson’* case. Also, to take out summonses to recover unpaid rates. To issue summons against the Ashley Bead Board for amount duo on the boundary road works. To con struct stone crossing at the big creek, cut side drains, and pat in culvert at, the swamp on Marshrnan’s continuation road, near the Kowai bod. To inspect the steep banks on the Terraco road, near Mr Hut’s, amt re.> requirements to make traffic safe To repair pos's and rails to two culverts near Mr O’Neil’s. Mr Stanton to be supplied with Dinlior to con struct bridge, and allowance *o bo made for labor. Pemberton’s Hill —Drains and cut verts in tho neighborhood. Specification to bo made and tenders called. Broadfoot’s Bsach road—To inspect cutting and see if fencing is required, and report next meeting. To issue gorse notice to occupiers where the gorse is worst. Tho Ashley Road Board having formerly waited on this Board to request a oontinua. tion of Gorrie’s road, it was decided that both Boards' surveyors meet and report next meeting, the chairman promising to assist. Gorse near the church, Sefton, to be cleared. Tenders were opened and accepted. The surveyor was instructed to write to W. Montgomery and Co., and inform them that the goods billed for have never reached the Board, and were not ordered in the Board’s name; and further, until this last meeting the bill has never been laid before them. The surveyor to write to the’ Government storekeeper and inform him that the amount for Acts of Parliament was paid some time since. The pay-sheet for the month, £9l 5s sd, was passed. The receipts for the month were £l2B 3s 6d.
