THE GREAT REGENERATOR OF OUR ENGLISH.
To the Editor of the Globe. Bib, —I see with regret that the stay amongst us of the great Herr Bandmann is fast drawing to a close. As a devoted admirer of his transeendant genius and condescension in giving us benighted English people lessons in our mother tongue, I hope he will favor us with one more intellectual treat, such as that on Saturday week. The large, fashionable, and enthusiastic audience which responded to his generous offer to give lessons to English people as to the pronunciation of their language, showed that, despite the attempt to crush genius made by the Board of Education, his unselfish offer was duly appreciated. This should induce our great mentor to give us yet another series of lessons in English, and as we heard a little about the expense incurred by Herr Bandmann for hire of hall, advertising, &■)., in his natriotio endeavours to improve our English, I haie a plan to propose which will obviate this. As I understand that after Monday next Herr Bandmann leaves us, 1 would suggest that he might repeat his lessons on Saturday afternoon next, in connection with the Waxwork Exhibition. We should then, whilst revelling in the classically pure English of the great tragedian, be surrounded by the counterfeit presentments of eminent personages, thus inducing a proper and reverent frame of mind, to enable ua to receive with due humility the instruction flowing from the lips of Herr Bandmann. The course proposed would also have this advantage, that the expense of hiring a hall would be obviated. Indeed, such a grand combination of attractions would no doubt draw so largo a house as would enable ahandsome sum to be divided between the proprietor of the waxworks and the tragedian ; thus, as it were, paying a tribute to genius. Hoping that my suggestion will be adopted, Yours, &0., AN ENGLISH - SPEAKING NEW ZEALANDER.
