ROAD BOARDS.

OXFORD. Ths usual fortnightly meeting of this Board was held on Friday, 18th inst. Present— Messrs Wilson Fisher (chairman), Bennett, Ingram, and Marsh. The fallowing correspondence was read—From the Key. M. Baxter, asking the Board to form the footpath towards hie house, as he bad cleared all the gorso. From Mr Bladden, asking the Board to shingle the part of Greenwood’s road which was now formed. Tenders to be called for the work. From the chief surveyor, informing the Board that he would resurvey the road near Mr J. Greenwood’s, as) it had not been properly plotted. From the Colonial Secretary’s office, acknowledging receipt of|iett«r re diphtheria in district. From Messrs Lewis and Gould, about gates on Ashley Gorge road. The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for claying on Starvation road, shingling 15 chains Sale’s road and side channels near Mr Sladden’a, 3 chains of Ashley Gorge road, and two fords, one on Ashworth’s and one on Rainey’s road. To have the ditoh at Sharman’s filled in, and ruts filled on main and Bennett’s roads. To get legal opinion about gorse where there had been no fence on one side of road. To give notice to Messrs Mcßriar and Ashworth to fill ditch on the division fence to prevent the water from flowing on to the road. To call for tenders for filling hollow at Mr D, Fisher’s in one month. Tenders were opened for the various works, and one in each case for footbridge at Stiffens’, which was considered too much to be spent upon the work. Accounts to tho amount of £lB7 ISs wore passed for payment, and tho Board adjourned. COURTENAY. A meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, March 220 d inst. Present—Hon. Colonel Brett (chairman), Messrs Mathias, Anaou, and Gough. Numerous tenders for the different works advertised were opened, and one in each case accepted, with the exception of two works for which it was decided to invite fresh tenders. Correspondence was read aa followe: —From tho Bank of New Zealand re fixed deposit of the Board. From Mr McOartan, complaining of the state of Weedon’o road, culvert across same being broken. Tho surveyor stated that he had made arrangements to have ths wooden culvert taken up and replaced with pipes immediately. From R. Thompson, applying for a cropping leneo of gravel reserve 1453 at Weodons. Clerk to write and decline same, as tho Board intend sowing tho reserve with gum seeds. From the Rev. H. Collins, complaining of the state of that part of tho Home bush road where tho water from the Malvern water-race has been allowed to cross the road Surveyor stated that tho road had been repaired since tho receipt of above letter. From the Salwyn County Council forwarding copy cf tho map of tho county as requesed Tho surveyor’s report was read and adopted. Resolved—" That the chairman be requested to call a meeting of ratepayers of this district for the purpose of considering the advisability of bringing tho Local Election Act, 1876, into force in tho district, agreeably to a minute of tho Board passed at last meeting. Also to discuss tho question of the distribution of the water from the Malvern waterrace through tho district. “ Resolved—" That tho clerk be instruo.ed to write to tho Selwyn County Council, informing them of tho proposed meeting, and request they will bo good enough to forward any information they may possess bearing on tho subject, or any suggestions they raoy desire to make for the guidance of tho meeting on April 14lh next j" also to advertise for tenders for various works. After payment of a few small accounts the Board adjourned till Thursday, April 14lh, at 10 a.m.
