BOARD OF HEALTH.
The ordinary meeting of the Board of Health was held yesterday. Present—Mr Harman (in the chair), Messrs Ross, Brown, Hall and White.
Owing to the late hour, nnd the absence of some members of tho Board, it was resolved to defer consideration of the medical officer's report (trhioh had been brought up at a previous meeting), till next Monday at the usual hour, when a special meeting will be held. With regard to the Addington workshops, the report of Dr. Nedwill was again brought up and read, and the Board deoided to forward a copy thereof to the Minister of Public Works. A letter was read from the Avon Road Board, stating that that body is in treaty with the Papanui inhabitants for tho proper formation of the roads, and that the Avon Road Board believes that only pipe drainage for the district an recommended by the Engineer to tho Drainage Board will meet the demands of health, and that such was the work of the Drainage Board. Mr Brown submitted a report of the interview which the deputation from this Board had with the Road Board. [The particulars of that meeting have been published in these columns.] Iho Chairman did not see that tbia Board could do anything moro in the matter. Mr Brown said the Avon Road Board seemed determined not do anything towards drainage in the district most requiring it. Be thought it should be publicly known that any person who had a grievance in the direction could take action against the Road Board.
_ The Chairman read a legal opinion on a kindred subject, from whioh it appeared that the Road Board was responsible. On the motion of Mr Brown, it wns rosolved—" That the report of the committee be received,_ the Local Board of Health expressing their regret that they ar.< unable to afford the inhabitants relief by compelling the Road Board to make the side channels."
Tho Board also resolved to acknowledge the letter of the Avon Boad Board, and state that this Board did not see its way to apply the remedy which appeared necessary. From the Sydenham Borough Council, a letter was read, drawing attention to the state of Jaokaon's Creek, and the gaol premises at Addington, which were being oomplainod of as smelling offensively. A report on tho subject by the inspector was read, and it was deoided to forward the report to the Government.
