CAVALRY T. ARTILLERY.

[OOMMTJNICATSD.]

The return match between these corps was played on the TT.C.O. ground yesterday, the Cavalry, drawing on their vast fuod of ingenuity, substituting Mr George Lee, of Rangiora, in place of the lengthy orderly, the latter gentleman very conveniently disappearing into a nutshell until the interprovincial crioketor was introduced, who, when asked if he was a member of the Ohristchurch troop, manfully admitted ho was not. This match, as the former, was won by the Cavalry, mainly in consequence of their olever manipulation and refraining from following the conditions of the match. The Cavalry, going first to the wickets, succeeded in putting together 114 runs, of whioh Mr Lee contributed 26, not out; the Artillerymen only making 39, through eagerness three being run out. This state of the score necessitated a following on, when the blue coats treated the spectators to a grand display of leather hunting, and succeeded in a short time in potting together the very respeotable score of 167, Washer contributing 56, not out. The Cavalry, with twenty minutes time, started with Messrs Lee and Dundas. These two gentlemen being disposed of for one ruD, were succeeded by the new trooper brought out for the last match and the little bandsman

(Wheatley), who kept their stumps up until time was called, the match being decided on the first innings, though in favor of the Artillery at the finish. The cavalry may be congratulated on the results of their two wins, and certainly displayed great and steady generalship to accomplish the result.
