There was a full House, and the result showed 212 for the motion and 296 against, giving a majority of 8t against the Government. The Commission of Inquiry, appointed at the instance of the Queensland Parliament to investigate the circumstances connected with the contracts for tho supply of steel rails for tho Queensland Government, and to a 5 * 181 " 6 / charges in connection therewith made by Mr Hemmant, the ex-Treasurer, against the Premier, Mr Mcllwraith, has commonced its sitting. The commission consist of Mr King, appointed by the Queensland Government, and an English barrister, appointed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies. Tho proceediogs aro private. Home member) of the local Land League, who were arrested and lodged in Kilinainham Gaol, County Meath, were serenaded at night by a number of sympathisers. Notwithstanding the recent decision in the action of Clark v Bradlaugh, the Speaker will oontinue to reoognise Mr Bradlaugh as a member of the House until otherwise ordered by a distinct resolution of the House. Earl Granville in the House of Lords, and Mr Gladstone in the House of Commons, referred to the assassination of the Emperor of Russia at St. Petersburgh, and spoke in eulogistic terms of his late Majesty. Both Houses have agreed to addresses of condolence to ber Majesty the Queen, and also H.R.H. the Duchess of Edinburgh. Patriok Joseph Sheridan, who was _ one of the traversers recently tried for conspiracy at the C>urt of Queen's Bench, Ireland, and who was discharged because the jury were unablo to agree, has been arrested under the Coeroion Act. The oelebration of St. Patrick's Day was attended by some rioting among the Irish soldiery quartered at Aldershot. The disturbance lasted three hours, and it was found necessary to charge the rioters at the point of the bayonet. Some serious injuries were inflicted.

Tho matter h'.s been placed in the hands of the police, and precautions against any attempt of violence have been token. The Chinese immigration into the United States is reviving at San Francisco, and the papers strongly urge the president to put into operation the Powers restricting the influx of Chinese conferred under the recent treaty concluded with China. Indian tribes in the territory of New Mexico, United States, are on the war path. They have attacked the white inhabitants, and have massacred thirty persons. March 20. The Emperor of Russia has thai-Ved the Housob of Lords and Commons for their addresses of condolence on the death of his father. A circular has been issued by tho Russian Government promising internal developments with a view of ameliorating the political condition of the people and advocating a pacific foreign policy. The circular has favorably impressed the various European Governments. The ceremony of removing the remains of the late Emperor Alexander to the cathedral at St. Petersburg was performed with great pomp. The new Czar looked pale, but was cool and collected. Several important arrests of Nihilists have been made. Discoveries are continually being made at St. Petersburg of Nihilist plots and infernal machines laid down in various parts of the city. Mr Lovy Lawson, editor and proprietor of the "Daily Telegraph," has brought an action for libel in the Court of Queen's Bench, against Mr Labouohere, M.P. for Northampton, and proprietor of "Truth." Lord Chief Justice Coleridge's remarks during the hearing of the case have been in favor of Mr Labouohere.
