OAMBEIDGE, March 24. A Complaisant Husband. A sensation was created at daylight this morning between the tribes at present located in Cambridge. A member of one appropriatod last night a married woman belonging to the other, and at daybreak this morning the aggrieved tribe, largely supplemented by other Natives, armed with spears, axes, &3., marched through the town to the camping ground of tho other tribe. The demonstration was of a most threatening character, and amongst tho residents, suddenly roused out of their bods, great consternation prevailed. On both tribes meeting. A good deal of hostile demonstration was indulged in, and » animated discussion, conducted in tho Native tongue, ensued. Eventually, however, a compromise was agreed to, and tho offending tribe rendered a sort of compensation, consisting of money, blankets, greenstone ornaments, pigs, horses, dogs, &c., all heaped up in a pile between tho two contending parties. Tho wrath of the offended tribe gradually became appeased in proportion as the pile accumulated, and at length tho tender was accepted in full satisfaction. The money value of the compensation is roughly estimated at £3O. This was deemed sufficient retribution, and the irjurvd husband returned with his tribe, leaving the woman undisturbed. The proceedings created a good deal °‘ uneasiness until the effect came to bo nnder•tood. The Native Land CourtThe Land Court is proceeding slowly. Today’s business was unimportant, NAPIER, March 34. Our Charitable InstitutionsAt the end of this month oil charitable aid ceases. Tho Borough Council refused any grant, and consequently there will be no Government subsidy this quarter, and after that the subsidies cease. Tncre ore now twelve old men and twelve women and children in the refuge, and they must be turned adrift unless something ia done in the meantime. To-night tho Charitable Board met, and some strong language was used about the Borough Council. Ultimately the Mayor agreed to call a special meeting of tho Council to re-con-■ider their decision. FireA fire occurred at East Olivo yesterday, which destroyed a stack of unthreshed oats, and one of threshed hay, the property of Mrs McLees. The loss is estimated at £250. There was no insurance. Sporting. At the settling of the Jockey Club meeting the following amounts were paid over : —Mr Molvor, £SO j Mr Walters, £BS j Mr Yallanoo, £430; Hon, W. Bobinson, £220 ; Mr Farley, £SO; Mr Murray, £235; Mr Wheeler, £145; Mr Douglas, £25; Mr Keith, £3O ; Mr Nikora. £2O. Total, £I2OO. WELLINGTON, March 24. The Asylum Scandal. The Asylum Commission sat again to-day and took rebutting evidence ogainst the evidence in defence of tho management. A Good Ending. The Seamen’s Union, which was formed here a few months back, has been abolished. Bonus for EnterpriseThe " Gazette ” contains a notification that the Government is prepared to receive proposals from persons willing to establish a factory for tho manufacture of blasting and ■porting powder, tho proposer to state what amount of bonus he would require to induce him to undertake the manufacture. It is also announced that a bonus of £SOO will bo given for three years in succession for refining sugar each year by machinery established in New Zealand of not less than 100 tons of cane sugar. The firm refining the first 100 tons of sugar and receiving tho bonus shall bo also entitled to the bonus of tho two following years upon fulfilling tho conditions abovementioned, PALMBESTON NOBTH, March 24. A Divided Jury.

The jury were looked up all night, and this rooming intimated that they could not agree, and were discharged, A fresh jury were empanelled, and a now trial is proceeding.
