IMPORTATION OF THOROUGHBRED FILLIES.

Oa reading the report of Mr Town'* recant Bale in Sydney, I was, as I allowed at the time, rather puzzled to know who Mr Elliott wa?, the purohaß9r of the two fillies by Yattendon out of Gulnare and Ecßtaoy. The '.' Taranaki Efera'd " however enlightens us as follows:—"The b.b. Lallah Bookb, which recently arrived at Waitara, brought down two thoroughbred fillies, purohased by Mr John Elliott (who is now on a visit to Australia), from the well-known breeder and racing man, Mr Andrew Town, of Sydney, for his brother, Mr William Elliot, of this town. Both wero landed without a mishap, and in good condition. Mr Elliot is a good sportsman, and deserves thanks for importing such splendid animals into Taranaki, and no doubt he will have success with his recent purchases, as they are reported by judges to be the beet fillies ever seen here. They will be nominated for the Champagne Stakes (two-year-old*) to bo run here next year, and no doubt will carry Mr Elliot's colors to the fore in many a well-contested race. The fillies need no comment, as the pedigrees below speak for themselves. They are both by the same sire ab the Australian champion—Grand Flaneur. PBDIGBBEB. Brown filly, foaled November Btb, 1879 by Yattendon, out of G-ulnare j by Little John, out of Gulnare ; by Gohanna (son of Rous' Emigrant); grand-dam Deception, by Theorem (imp.) out of Cutty Sark (imp ) This filly was entered for some of the chief events 'in Australia, as follow:—A. J.O. and Y.B.C. Sires* and Mares' Produoo Stakes, A.J.C. Great Foal Stakes, Hawkesbury and Tattersall's Mares' Produce Stakes, Goelong Sires' and Mares' Produce States. The pedigree of the seoond is as follows : Brown filly, foaled September, 1879—by Yivttendon, out of Eoalaoy, by The Marquis (imp) ; out of Lady Exeter, by New Warrior (imp.) ; out e£ Agitation (imp.) by Ambrose.

She was also entered for the following events :—A.J.O. and V.R.O. Sires' and Mares' Produce Stakes, A.J.O. Great Foal Stakes, Hawkesbury Mares' Produce Stakes, and Geelang Sires' and Mares' Produce Stakes. From the above it will be seen that they are the very best class of animals, and will be a great boon to Taranaki for breeding purposes, as we are greatly in want of some thoroughbred mares.
