LAND SALE. At a land sale held by Messrs H. Matson AND Co. at their rooms on Saturday, 19th inst., there was an mu-mally large attendance, the rooms being orowded. The attraction of the sale seemed to centre in the Biccarton road and Aldington bnilding sections of Mr H. J. Hall. The biddings were alow, and it required all the eloquenco and patience of the auctioneer to effect .sales. The following was the result: —Nearly all the sections were one quarter aero each, and tho ■ale commenced at the Biccarton road end. Nos. 3 and 4, fronting the Biccarton road, sold for £125 eaoh ; No. 5, £lO5 ; Nos. 7,8, 9, 10, 11, jeilO each ; Nos. 12,13. 14, 15, 16,17 and 18, back sections, £IOO each. At the Addington end, No. 120, a corner section, 1 rood and 3 perches, £97 10s ; and No. 117. the opposite corner, i acre sold for £IOO. The total sale realised £2002105, For tho 1196 acres land at tho South Bskaia £2 per acre only was offered. It was withdrawn. AUCTIONEEB'S BEPOBT. Mk. J. L. Wilson reports : The groin markets ore in full Bwing; the very fine dry season has given such an opportunity for thresh, •ing aa we have seldom had. The consequence it we have had a rurh of grain coming in which, -with a short supply of vessels, haa cansod an accumulation it is very difficult to know what to do with. Buyers are afraid to go on purchaping, not having storagi. Thia has had ita inflcenee, and caused prices to slacken. Wheat—The price is 3s 3d to 33 sd, but I have placed some thousands at 3s 6d and 3» 8d this week to outside buyers. Outs are very firm, with an up tendency; have sold a quantity this week at Is 7d and Is Bd. Oats are not ho good in quality thia year, with a few exceptions. Barley— Prices are still very low ; feed sorts Is 6d to 2s, malting from 2s 6d to 3s. At the latter price I have sold some nico Ashburton barley. Byegrasß is in grout demand, and various quantities have been turned over at from 2s 6d to 4s fid. I expect we shall have many bay stacks put through tho machine which would never have been done but for tho great demand.
