FOOTBRIDGE OVER THE RAILWAY

TO THB EDITOB OP THB EBBBB. 3iß, —lieo that a deputation is to wait on the Premier on hie return from the South for the purpose of getting a footbridge over the railway at Madras street. The bridge was at first wanted at Colombo street, but now Madras street is ohosen—for what reason I am unable to discover. Certainly not the convenience of tho public If the convenience of the greatest number of people is to be considered, then Manchester street without doubt will be the best place for the bridge to be built, as there is already a footbridge half way across the line, and, if I am correotly informed, sufficient money was voted some few years ago for the other half, As money is very scarce, and the Government is enforcing the strictest eoonomy, why not utilise the present bridge and complete the other half, which would be a saving of at least onehalf the expense, and also a much greater convenience to the public, as the population in that neighborhood is xnuoh larger than at Madras street. I hope that someone with more influence than myself will tako the matter up, and see that no mistake is made. It the bridge is to be built at all, then let it be put in the best place, so that we shall not have to point to it as anothor blunder for tho want of a little forethought.
