Tho day was fine, and several of the contests remarkably good. HURDLE RACE. I Clarence, list 121 b 1 Milo, 9st 91b 2 Little John, 10st _ ... 3 There was a good race between Milo and Clarence, and the finish was very close. Little John was oat of it at tho finish. The Hock Hurdle was won by Johnny. AUTUMN HANDICAP. Atlantic, 7st 1 Talent, 6st 41b 3 ! Luna, Sat 101 b 3 i Luna took a rear position from the start, and the race was left to Talent and Atlantic. They both finished under the whip, the latter winning by a bare neck. Star won the Novel Handicap, and the Consolation was won by Talent after a good race with Unknown and Nantilas. NAPIER J.C. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] NAPIEB, March 18, Tho races to-day were well attended, and afforded some grand sport, though the enjoyment of the day was to some extent marred by i the judge’s decision in the Tradesmen’s Handi- { cap being questioned by some. There was a clinking finish between Libeller and Mavis, the . impression of many being that it was a dead heat. The judge, however, gave it to Mavis. There were .£372 in the totaluator in £2 shares, only three being on Mavis, and the lucky speculators, therefore, got odds about ‘ 50 to 1. < Handicap Hurdles of 150 sovs.; two miles c and half. Matau, 10st 101 b 1 Rawenta, Out 71b ... ... ... 2 Harkaway, Oat 121 b 3 To Whetu, 10st 91b; Angler, 9st 101 b; Ada, Set 51b; Pope, 9st, also started. Won by a length. Provincial Produce Stakes of 60 sovs; one mile and a half ; weight for ago. Firefly 1 Prim 2 Pioneer 3 Algebra was scratched. Firefly won in a cantor by about three lengths. Time, Imin. 59500. Tradesmen’s Handicap, of 200 sovs. One mile and a half. Mavis, €st 1 Libeller. Bat 41b 2 Natator, 9st6lb ; Dan, 7st; My Dream, 7st; and Moanatiri, also started. The flag fell to a fair start, Moanatiri making the running at a good pace, My Dream and Mavis next. Libeller and Natator bringing up in the rear. On passing tho stables Mavis went to the front, and soon obtained a long lead. She maintained her lead until the straight, when she had ton lengths to spare. Natator and Libeller, who wore next, then came with a grand rush, Libeller on the insi’e, and Natator on the oatside, and a splendid race ensued between the trio, tho judge’s verdict being in favor of Mavis by a head. Natator was half a length ahead of Dan, with My Dream and Moanatiri close up. Time, 2min. 43sea Hawke’s Bay Plate, of 100 sovs. Two miles. Weight for ago. Natator 1 Foal Flay 2 Angler, Bandwiok, l ibeller, Primrose and Badsworth, were scratched. Fool Flay made the running, a conple of lengths in advance of Natator, to the distance, when Derritt brought up the big chesnat, and passing Foul Play won pretty easily by a length and a half. The Hack Hurdles was won by Sussex, Jack Spratt second. Consolation, of 30 sovs. One mile. My Dream, Bst 71b 1 Merlin, 7st 41b 2 Miss Domett, 7st 31b... ... ... 3 Midge, Prim, and Dan, also started.
