ELLESMERE HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
The first show of this kind in the Ellesmere district was held at Leeston on Tuesday, and, thanks to the members of the working committee, and especially the bon. secretary and treasurer, Messrs. W. D. Laurence and F. Jameson, was a great success in every way. The exhibits were not quite so large as set forth in the prize schedule, but nevertheless when the doors were opened to the public the hall presented a very bright appearance, and from 12 noon to 9 p.m. the visitors did not cease to arrive. Besides those entered to compete for prizes, there were a lot of extra exhibits of almost every description, and the first thing which was very much admired was a collection of cut flowers of every description, which Messrs. Nairn and Son sent from Christchurch, and a few choice hot house plants, sent by Mr J. L. Christensen, of Doyleston. Another thing whioh received special notice was a tin of potted butter, made by Mr Petrie, of Southbridge.
