MASONIC.
The consecration of the Lodge of Concord at Papanui Inst night at the T< wu Ha!l, was the occasion of the largest gathering of Masons teat has over taken place in Canterbury at a similar ceremony, no less than 200 brethren assembling to do honour to the occasion. The Grand Lodge officers taking part were asfohows :—V. W. Bro. H. Thomson, I'ep Diit Q.M., acting as Dis triot G.M : W. Bro Boamor, P.D.G.S.W., acting as Dap. List G M.; VV. Bro- B. 0Bishop. D.G.T., net ug as D.O.S.W ; W. Bro. A. R. Kirk, I'.G.J k v.; Bro Rev. H. E East, Dint. G. Chaplain : Bro. W. R Mitchell, I) G. Sec. j Bro. F. J. Smith, L.G. Registrar ; Bro. R, I). ’) hcinas, acting D.G.lh ; Bro. K. Smith noting as U.G.S.D.; Bro. T. Smith acting aa D.G.J.D., Bro. M. Saudstein acting as List. G. Pursuivant, and Bro. Stevens as i> G. Tyler. Grand Lodge being duly opened by the acting Dist. G.M., the ceremony of consecration was proceeded with. The W. M. elect of the new lodge, Bro C E Briggs, read tho petition, and tho acting Diet. Q.M., under authority of the B.W. List. O M. granted tho praver, and the warrant constituting t' o lodge was road by the D.Q. Secretary. Tho now lodge was then - olomnly cunsiiui tod nco rding to ancient custom, tho musical portion of the ceremony being most ably rendered by Bro. R. T. Searoll, acting D.Q. organist, and a choir comprising Bros. F.
Hobbs, Fnnston, MoCardell, and Macintosh The lodge being duly consecrated, the acting Hist. G.M. proceeded to instal the W.M. elect, Bro. ♦,!. 33. Briirgs, and afterwards invested the officers of the lodge as follows: —Bro. N. Wolfe, S.W.; Bro. T. A. Peterkin. as J.W., Bro. J. 8. Jamieson as S.D., BroHiorns as J.D., and Bro. May as O.Q- **| s Lodge wag then closed, and the brethren a journed to a capital spread, which was done ample justice to. After spending a very Peasant couple of hours the party broke up. 100 lodges raoresented on the occasion either by their W.M.’a, officers, or members, were St. Augustine, Unanimity (Lyttelton); Canterbury lonic (Leeston); Southern Cross (Kaiapoi): Ashley (Rangiora); Canterbury Kilwinning (Lyttelton); Lincoln, Conyers, Robert Burns, Corinthian, besides a number of lodges outside the province. Altogether the gathering was a truly splendid one, exemplifying both the wide spread of masonry and the kindly feeling entertained by lodges of all three constitutions towards the youngest scion of masonry in the Canterbury district. ~ The catering for the banquet was in the hands of Bro. J. Bligh, who carried out his important duties in a manner eliciting the warmest enconiums from all.
