In the engagement at Spitzkoff General Colley was killed before the retreat of the British took place. His body has been recovered. It has boen decided that reinforcements should be despatohed to Natal forthwith from Bombay, Bermuda, and Colombo. Further reinforcements will he sent from the garrison? at Gibraltar and Malta. March 1.
The Government have announced their intention to proceed with the Arras Bill in connection with the measure relating to Ireland. An enormous robbery of jowels has taken place frrm the premise* of Mr Boyce MoMurdo Wiight, Gireat Buasell street, London. The sailing ship Zealandia, from New Zealand, went aground in the Thames, and has been docked in order to ascertain if she has sustained damage. M. Hanlan has arrived at Toronto, where he was received with great enthusiasm. In a public speech he praised Trickett and Layjook very highly. Hanlan intends to retire from rowing. It is rumored that Sir Garnet Wolseley is to be raised to the Peerage for his distinguished military services. It is reported that it has been resolved to arrest Mr Dillon, who a few days ago made a violent speech in the House of Commons, in which he justified the shooting of landlords by their tenants.
