AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
Messrs Egbert Wilkin and Co. report— At the Addington yards on Wednesday 12234 sheep and 353 head of cattle came forward. Sheei> —In fat sheep tho supply was above the average, the bulk of which consisted of prime and good quality cross-breds with a fair proportion of merinos. The sale opened very dull, and there was but slight improvement towards the close. The bulk of medium quality] drafts not reaching owners* limits were turned out unsold, while tho demand for stores was not so keen as experienced at late sales. In fact there scarcity of buyers of merinos, which resulted in many lots being passed in unsold. Several good lines of mixed crose-breds changed hands at prices a shade below late rates. There was a very indifferent supply of fat cattle, the bulk of which comprised middling and inferior lots, for which description there was a great want of competition throughout the sale, and prices barely up to late rates were obtained. We sold, on aecount of various clients, prime oroas-breds at 11a 3d to 11s Gd each; good ditto at from 9a 3d to 10s ; ditte merinos at Gs 6S ; fat lambs at 8s 9d ; cross-bred stores at 8s and 8s 64; merino ewes (full-mouthedl at 4s 3d ; prime bullocks at £3 5s ; ditto (light weights) from £6 to £G 10s ; mixed stores at £4 15s. We held our weekly sale of sheepskins, &c., on Thursday, at our New Zealand Wool Store, at which there was a good attendance of buyers and spirited competition. We disposed cf all lota at prices equal to last week’s rates. Batchers’ crossbred, fall-woolled skins, 2s 9d, 3s, 3s Gd ; do do, second quality, Is 6d, 2s, 2s 9d; do merino, full-woolled skins, to 2a lOd; country crossbred do, 3s 3d, 4s, 4s sd; do do., second quality, Is Bd, 2s 7d. 3s 3d ; do merino, full woolled skins, to 3s lOd; butoters’ pelts, half to three-fourths woolled, Is to 2s Gd ; do do, late shorn, 4d to Is ; country do, half to threefourths woolled. Is to Is 7d ; da do. late shorn, 3d to Is ; lambskins, large, 2s Gd to 3s ; do, medium, 1s Gd to 2s Gd; do, small, lid to Is 6d. Fat and tallow—BG packages were catalogued and all sold. There was a large attendance of buyers, and keen competition, with an improvement in price, compared with last sale. FatBest quality, clean and well saved, to 2i|d per lb ; second quality, to 2£d per lb; heated and inferior, none : tallow, in casks, at 18s and 19s Gd par cwfc, and in small packages at 2Jd to 2|d per lb. Hides —There is no alteration to note. The prices remain firm at last week's quotations. Hides, sound, at 4d per lb, aud 4Jd per lb for heavy hides ; hides, damaged, 551bs and over, at 2£d per lb ; do do, under Gslbs, at 2d per lb ; calfskins, sound, at ‘ld per lb; do, cut and damaged, at 2d per lb.
Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. report on the live stock market for tho week ending Thursday, the 10th inst., as follows: —12,234 sheep, 353 cattle, and 308 pigs wore sent forward to the Addington Yards. Although thoro was sufficient fat stock for tho requirements of tho trado.yetthe great balk comprised stores, crossbreds and merinos of ordinary quality. Tho continued dry weather, of course, is telling on our pastures, and checking also the growth of the turnips, and our stubbles are affording little or no feed, and unless we get rain soon, it will be a query bow long present prices of stock will be maintained. Store cattle at present are simply at a standstill, and young stock have come down in price very considerably lately. Mutton may be quoted at IJd per lb., and beef at from 16s to 18s per 1001 b Store crossbreds are selling at from 8s Gd to 9s for grazing purposes, and crossbred ewes for lambing purposes about the same price. Merino ewes are still in good demand, and early shorn, good conditioned, with sonnd months, from good flocks, are bringing from 4s 9d to ss, 5s 3d, and 5s Gd each. Good young merino ewes are bringing from6a6dto7seach.bat a good deal depends on the flock, and whether culls or not. Fat lambs are more plentiful than they were, and are selling at from 6s to 8s and 9a each. Onr entries on Wednesday were on account of Messrs H. D. Gardiner, A. W. Evans, W. Pitt, Early Bros., H. Overton, Joseph Eaydon, T. Qarforth, James Kinley, Leslie, and others. Our principal sale was a lino of 850 crossbreds at from 10s Gd to lls Gd each ; also a line cf fresh conditioned merino wethers, on account of Mr H. D. Gardiner, at from Gs to Gs 6d and 6a 9d each. Pat steers, at from £G 15a to £7 17a Gd each ; fat cows, at £5 each. Wo had to turn out several lines of prime sheep, prices offered not being equal to owners’ reserves. Wool, Skins, Hides and Bough Fat—We again catalogued a verylsrge number of skins on Thursday, and, although prices have somewhat weakened, yet biddings came with much spirit, and we obtained very satisfactory prices. Best butchers’ skins went np to 3s Id each.; medium skins, from la 9d to 2s 3d ; merino skins are bringing from Is 34 ols Gd each; rough fat, 2d to 2 ; ]d per lb ; hides, -Id per lb; wool in bale, brought 7d per lb; and, in bag, from Sid to Gd per lb.
