ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHOOTB The above Board met on Friday last at 10 a.m. Present—Messrs F. Jones (chairman), J. O'Neill and G Dryden. After going through routine work and passing accounts for £255 4s 2d the Board adjourned till Monday, tho 7ch iast., at 10 a.m. The adjourned meeting was held on Monday last. Present— Messrs F. Jones (chairman), J. O’Neill, W. Attwood, T. Bruon and Geo. Dryden. The aierk was instructed to ouo for ail outstanding rates at once. Thu following correspondence was considered : Local Board of Health, enclosing notice of two cases of sickness at Hillsborough. Messrs J. and A. Anderson, enclosing account for tracings of bridge to be sent to Wellington. Tho olork was instructed to forward it to the bridge committee. Mr G. Beeves, forwarding statement of number of vessels that had p issed through the bridge for a fortnight. It. was decided that for the future a return should bo kept and handed in every month, and to allow tho bridge keeper ,S 1 per month for doing it. Secretary South Waimakariri Conservators, asking for an account of what rates are uncollected, and the oommission the Board would require to collect tho rato for tho future. On tho motion of Mr Dryden, seconded by Mr O'Neill, it was resolved—“ That tho Board would undertake the collection for 2J per cent., on condition that all tho other local foodies, including Christchurch and Sydenfaatn, charge the same rato.” Mr B. Shetland, asking that Gloucester street might bo metalled. To bo informed that if tho funds will allow of it the work will be attended to, Mr A. Burrowes, offering to keep tho pound on for twelve months at tho same rate as ho now pay s. 1 was decided to call for fresh tenders. Messrs Woodard, Mills, Drew, and others, asking that a lamp should bo placed at Phillips’ street corner. Agreed to bo done. Mr J. T. Fisher, asking tho Board to give him access to K.B. 21. To bo inspected and reported on next Board day. Drainage engineer, os to duties to be undertaken by foreman. Resolved —" That this Board will undertake the work for £2O per annum.” flolwyn County Council, asking for further particulars us to Monok’s culvert and the Hills road. The clerk to furnish tho information. Mr J. M. Glennie, re Lyttelton and Humnor road. Tenders to be called for the work. On tho motion of Mr Dryden, seconded foy Mr O’Neill, it woo resolved—“ That for tho future all commissions for collecting rates ■hall bt> paid into the district fund.” Tho estimated receipts and expenditure for the current year wore considered and approved of. Unsolved—“ That the division of the district into wards, as shown in plan marked A, be adopted by tho Board for recommendation to ft general meeting of ratepayers. The mooting to be hold on March 17th, at the Phillipstown schoolroom, at 7.30 p.m.” The dark was instructed to call for tenders for various works, LITTLE RIVER. The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at their office on Monday. Present —Messrs Forbes (chairman), Parkinson, Wilson, and Judge. The following correspondence was read:—From Smythe and Gyles, for permission to take earth from tho roadside near Mr Coop’s at Little Biver. From the Crown Solicitor, re transfer of land »t Gebbio’s Valley. From tho Colonial Secretary, conveying over to the Board complete control and management of all pounds in tho district. From tho Springs Eoaii Board, adapting the plan and specification as prepared by this Board for the erection of a bridge over tho Biver Halswoll at Greenpark, but suggesting that iron bark be substituted for stringy bark in the girders, and that the hand rails bo 4ft. high ; also inviting any suggestions which this Board may wish to make with regird to cleaning the Biver Halswoll for the ensuing year. From the Waimakoriri Board of Conservators, requesting to be informed of the rateable value of that part of their district within the jurisdiction of this Board. From tho Chief Surveyor, enclosing a tracing of the road from Barry’s Saddle to Okuto Talley, and requesting to be informed if the Board wish to retain it; that it will bo laid out us far as section 2803, and if tho owner of said section is willing, and tho Board desire it, tho road will bo laid out through.” With reference to Smyth and Gyle’s request it was resolved—“ That Mr Wilson see if there be any earth to spare in said locality which tho Board would not bo likely to require; also that the chairman take the neces■ary documents for the land transfer to the Grown solicitor's office. That the clerk ••knowledge the receipt of Colonial Secretary'a letter and deed of conveyance. That the suggestion of tho Springs Koad Board with regard to altering handrails in the proposed bridge be adopted, and that our clerk appoint with the clerk of that Board to meet and see what alterations may be necessary in the cleaning of the river Halswell for tho ensuing year; and that the sum of £29 15s bo paid over to said Board, being half the cost of cleaning this river for the past year.” It wos also agreed—“ That the Waimakariri Board of Conservators be informed that the valuation referred to will be forwarded os soon as the rate roll receives the fi it of the Court of Asaessment for the ensuing year.” It was resolved—“ That the dork request permission from the owner of section 2602, and convey tho result to the Chief Surveyor.” It was also resolved that the culverts which were reported bad on the Little Biver road, bo loft in the hands of the clerk, to attend to at bis earliest convenience, •nd that specifications be prepared for making approaches to tho row bridge at Little Biver church, and that tho few culverts which were reported blocked be attended to. There were nine tenders for tho clearing of bush in Weetern Valley extension contract, and that Of M, Priaderville was accepted, Mr White’s bender for supplying 6000 foot of timber was •Iso accepted. It was resolved that tenders be invited for carting 500 yards metal from Manson’s second bridge to Tat Tapu, on the main road. For clearing main drain near Tai Tapu, all through to the river, and erecting a wooden bridge over tho river Halswell, at Greenpark. It was also resolved that the drain close by tho blacksmith’s house at Toi Tapu be opened where it crosses the main road, and the pipes lowered to a proper level, with a view to an outlet for stagnant water in raid drains. The olork was requested to sue at once for all outstanding rates. After the payment of some bills the Board rose. EYESTON. Tho monthly meeting was held on Monday. Present—Messrs Wilson (chairman), Elder, Guild, Hopkins and Poshby. Letters were rend—From the Boutfa Waimakariri Board of Conservators, re protective works on the North road ; also, tho reply sent by the chairman, which was approved. From Mr J. S. White, requesting the Board to clear out Jackson and Eadden's road drains, so as to allow of him cleaning out his creeks through Bis land. Beeolved, that tenders bo invited for next meeting. Mr Guild applied to the Board lo take over the cleaning out of the Ohoka cook, and was informed that the Board of Conservators was tho proper Board to apply to, as tho crook was in the drainage district. Mr Thomas Burgess applied for a foot bridge to be put over the north branch tbe Waimakariri, which was refused, there being a bridge available at Cherry’s ford. Mr Laathordale handed in a petition from Mr Q. Mehrtens and seven other ratepayers, requesting tho Board to dacj.cn a part of the Ohoko creek, and offoru:g to contribute part of the cost. Eesolved —-That the Board cannot entertain application. Mr B. Burrell’s offer to sell the remainder of tho land at the gravel pit os per rough plan for £6O was considered, and after ♦.ho members had inspected tho same, it was resolved to offer Mr Burrell £2O for tho same, including tho right to put in a pipe drain to connect the two pieces already purchased. Is was decided to invito tenders for a number of works to bo sent in next Board day. Resolved—“ That notice be served on all persons under agreement wiih the Board to clean out oreoks ond drains running through or facing their property.” Resolved—“ That tho surveyor take legal proceedings against Mr Robt. Rico to recover tho cost of cleaning out half Hie length of Grey road drain.” A tender for timber, James Orallam, 13s lid, was accepted. Accounts amounting to £4O 17s, were passed, OXFORD, The usual fortnightly meeting of this Board wits hold on Friday, 4lh instant. The members present were Messrs Wilson Fisher (chairman), Ingram, and Marsh. The dork's report was read and considered, and it was resolved to shingle main road from <iuigley’B road to tho Barracks, with seven ywrds to tho chain. A loiter was read from Mr Whitefoord about allotting £SO to the Domain Board ; and ‘ono from Mr Grocson about survey a, Ac. Mr Growl waited upon

the Board asking to have the footpath in front of his house formed. He was informed that the Board would give him shingle if he carted it. The clerk was instructed to give Mr Hubert notice to quit the cottage within one week. To write to Chief Surveyor and oak him to allow Mr Naldor to resurvoy the road at Mr John Greenwood’s ; also, to call for tenders for removing sawdust o£E road at Xoungman and Oo.’a mills, and charge them with the cost. Accounts to the amount of £216 13a 7d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
