LAYING CAPABILITIES.

[From the " Prairie Farmer."] For the bonefit of those who are ignorant of the laying capabilities of the different varieties I append the following : Light Brahmas—Lay 135 per annum ; eggs seven to the pound. Dark Brahmas—l2s per annum; eight to the pound. Partridge Cochins—l3o per annum ; eight to the pound. Buff Cochins —Lay about 110 per annum ; seven to the pound. Houdans —150 per annum; eight to the pound. La Fleche—l2s per annum; eggs seven to the pound. Leghorns and Plymouth Rocks —Average 155 per annum ; eggs eight to the pound. Black Spanish—l4o per annum ; seven to the pound. Pencilled Hamburgs—Lay 180 per annum ; eggs ten to the pound. Games—l4o per annum ; eggs nine to the pound. Game Bantams—About 120 per annnm ; eggs fifteen to the pound. I do not pretend to say that every individual hen of the breeds that I have mentioned will lay in a year exactly the number of _ eggs that I have named—some of them will go beyond the mark and others will not quite come up to it—but I do claim that the figures I have given are a fair average of what may be expected from good stock well cared for. So if some one who keeps only half a dozen hens, and gives them the very best of care, knows that his fowls will lay more eggs in a year than I have given his breed oredit for, he need not rush into print to say that " Fanny Field has wilfully misrepresented" his fowls.
