ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A special meeting of the above was held an Wednesday last. Present—Hon. J. T. Peacock, Dtr. Frankish and Britten, Messrs TTarr (hon. sec), Carriok, Kimboll, Webb, and Bridges. The Hon. J. T. Peacock was elected as prelident for the remainder of tho year, in place of the late Sir J. C. Wilson. Hon. J. T. Peacock, in taking tho ohair, paid a high tribute of praise to the late president for tho interest evinced by him in all connected with the society. Dr. Frankish was elected as vice-president, in place o£ Hon. J. T. Peacock, who had been appointed bb presidont. Mr J. R. Hill was appointed as a member of tho Council, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sir J. 0. Wilson. Dr. Britten was elected as a momber of the garden committee in the room of Hon. J. T. Peacook resigned, ho being a momber of the committee ex officio. Some discussion ensued as to the advisabloness of reconsidering the question of a close aoaaon, the Council having received certain recommendations as to an open season because the pheasants are really numerous in parts of the district.

Dr. Frankish ultimately gave notice that he would movo at the next meeting that the resolution as to a close season be rescinded, and that cock pheasantß be shot during tho month of June in tho North Canterbury district, and that a Bpecial meeting be called to consider tho same.

It was resolved —" That a special mooting be called for the 16:h inst. to consider tho resolution proposed by Dr. Frankiah." On the motion of the President, Mr F. Sharp, Waiti, was appointed as a ranger. The tenders for the printing of tho annual report were opened, and it was reiolred that

tho lowest tender, that of the Pbbss Com pany, be accepted. A letter was read from the Colonial Secre tary, stating that Mr A. M. Johnson had agair asked for permission to take ova from ix,l ■ within the Canterbury district, and asking . whother the society had any objection to it. The secretary was requested to state that the society now Iprovided for more ova than the public required, and that the society do not feel disposed to give permission to have their fish disturbed. The Government were reminded that the matter been fully considered, and that they did not consider it conducive to publio interests to grant tho permission. The meeting then adjourned.
