HERR BANDMANN'S CHALLENGE.

Bib,—l see thut the world - renowned tragedian, Herr Bindmann offers no less a ■um than £IOOO to any one who will show him that the " Otago Diily Times " said "he ■ oould not play bhakespeare." Now, Sir, I can and will show the iioue of that journal containing that statement, at any place or time that the coin is likoly to be produced in a bona fide and honorable way. ■Let Herr Bandmann deposit the amount in the hands of any well known citizen—aay, his Worship the Mayor or his Honor Mr Justice Johnston—and in exchange for the amount named, gold and no flimsies, I will duly bring to light the bit of print required. I must state as an excuse for what designing peopa migl t oi.ll my unseemly precautior, that I have lost a good deal of stiff lately with certain professionals who got tho best of me over Sir Modred in the Dunedin Cup. No reference in our foot-noto to Herr Bandmann's letter was made to the " Otago Daiiy Times." " A Dunedin journal" were the words used by us, and Herr Bandmann himself has fitted the cap on the "Daily Times." Whatever may be his faults as an acUr or a letter.writer, Herr B.nlmann is far too shrewd and astute a showman to offer such a reward with tho slightest probability of its being claimed. His effusions to the local journals, with the objeot of advertising himself and show, having been declined, no doubt this is a cheap and effective method of attaining notoriety.— E». GrOBE.]
