[PRBSB ASSOCIATION TBIBGHAM.] NELSON, March 5. The weather wag beautiful all day, and the attendance of visitors during the afternoon was very large. Great interest was shown in the concluding shots of each championship, but excellent order was maintained. Paynter has fired most steadily during the match, and his victory is decidedly popular. He was champion in 1877. The closing scene of the carbine championship was very exciting, McLean, of Wanganui, being loudly cheered when bo made 39 out of the possible 40 at 400 yds, thus tying the winner Armstrong, but taking second honors, as Armstrong was highest in the seventh match. Match No. 9, Volunteers only.—2oo and 500 yards; ten shots at each distance. Prizes, £9. £B, £7, £6, £5, £4, three of £2, five of £l, The following are the prizetakers in order : —Purnell (Wanganui), Griffiths (Blenheim), each 72 ; Lander (Taranaki), King (Otago), Mclntosh (Stoke), each 71 ; Ellis (Nelson), Hay (Auckland), each 70; Paynter (Stoke), E. Boss (Westland), Hutchinson (Otago), Lieut. Ballinger (Wellington), Soker, F. (Blenheim), Harding (Oamaru), each 69 ; Fowler (Waimea), 68. The following also made 68 without taking prizes :—Nutsford, Bannister, Remington, Oakey E., Cooper, and Sampson. Match No. 10 (Carbine), Volunteers only.— 200 and 400 yards ; ten shots at each distance. Prizes, £9, £B, £7, £6, £5, £4, three of £—, five of £l. The following are the prizetakers in order : —McLean (Wanganui), 76; Thompson (Port Chalmers), Tandy" (Wellington), Levers (Wellington), Laird (Wanganui), each 73 ; Gordon (Thames), Lumsden (Auckland), each 72 ; Davy ( Wellington ), Thurston, D. (Wanganui), Armstrong (Thames), each 71 ; Wilkinson (Dunedin), Thomas (Thames), O. Prance (Wellington), Perry (Wanganui), each 70. The following made 69—Wimsett, Sergeant France, F. Smith (Nelson), Dixon. Civilian Match, 200 and 300yds, seven shots each. The following are the prize takers in order —Bell, 48 ; Hunter and Robson, each 44; Mcßae, 41 (all of Nelson) ; Gillon, 38. The Carbine aggregate prize takers are Armstrong (Thames champion), 273 ; McLean (Wanganui), 273 ; P. France (Wellington), 271 ; H. Dixon (Wellington), 267. The aggregate of non-prizetakere were— Dovey and Gordon, each 265 ; Cameron, A. Dixon, and Thomas, each 264 ; O. France, Lumsden, and Laird, each 263 ; Tandy, 261 ; Sergeant Wimsstt and Hoods 259 each ; P. Thompson, 258 ; Gill, 257 ; Olouston, Smith (Nelson), 256; Payne, 255. The rest wore all below this. For the Rifle champion aggregates the prizetakers are Paynter, (Stoke champion), 269 ; Hutchinson (Otago), 261 ; A. Sutton (Blenheim), 259 ; Hoskina (Taranaki), 258. The following are the aggregates of nonprizetakera : —Turner, 256 ; Hall, Mitsford, each 255 ; Griffiths, Harding, each 254 ; Cooper, 253 ; Burr, Downie, Ellis, McDonald, Purnell, Remington, Rogers, Willocks, each 252 ; Dingle, Horrell, each 251 ; Sergeant Ballinger, Private Doige, Gray, Fowler, each 250 ; Shaw, 249 ; Bannister, Hughes, Neill (Wanganui), Ricketts, Watt, Thorburn, each 248 ; Anderson, Forster, Mclntosh, Okey, E N. Rawlings, Tait, each 247 ; A. Ballinger, Hunter, McKenzie, Weir, Sampson, Grossman, 246 ; Lieutenant Ballinger, Hay, F. Soper, each 245. The remainder were below 245. The following will be the representatives in the North v South Island Rifle Match : North—Hoskins, Nutsford, Cooper, Burr, Downie, McDonald, Parnell, Remington, Dingle, Howell. South —Paynter, Hutchinson, A. Sutton, Turner, Hall, Griffiths, Harding, Ellis, Rogers, W. Mocks. There are only ton carbine representatives from the South present. The Northern team will be Armstrong, McLean, F. France, H. Dixon, Davey, Gordon, Cameron. A. Dixon, Thomas, C. France.
