THEATRE ROYAL.

•' MACBETH.” On Saturday “ Macbeth" was given to a highly appreciative audience. lb would not be correct to say that this is one of Herr Bandmann’s most successful efforts, a fact which is somewhat singular, for one would have imagined that this actor’s power of rendering startling situations, and his capacity of painting the deeper passions, would have made the role peculiarly suited to him. But the fact remains that his impersonation on Saturday was not altogether satisfying. For instance in the dagger incident he burst into his soliloquy with a suddenness and vehemence which did net give the audience the idea of a man juggled by an optical delusion. There were many parts, however, where Herr B&ndmann was perfectly equal to the occasion, and thoroughly carried bis audience away with him, Mr Oathcart as Macduff was excellent. His discovery of the murder of Duncan was a particularly fine effort, indeed the whole incident was admirably worked out, the scenic effect being very telling. Miss Beaudet showed the versatility of her powers in her rendering of Lady Macbeth, the delinea•tion being both powerful and original. The witches’ chorus was well given, Mr Reynolds’ flinging as Hecate being particularly noticeable. Mr Hall took the part of Banquo, and Mr Manning that of Duncan. To-night the very popular play of “ Richelieu” will bo given, the title role being filled by Herr Bandmann. We understand that this character is one in which he is particularly strong.
