MELBOURNE, March 3. RacingThe second day’s races of the Victorian Racing Club’s Autumn Meeting took place to-day at Flemington. For the Australian Cup seven started, W. Pile’s First Water winning in a canter by four lengths. Sweetmeat was second, and Progress third. Grand Flaneur was scratched. Time, 4min l|sec, which is very fast. MELBOURNE, March 4. ReformIn the Legislative Assembly last night the Bill introduced by Mr Graham Berry for tho reform of tho Constitution, was read a second time without a division. Mr Murray Smith then moved that a conference of the two Houses should be held to agree, if possible, to a compromise on the measure. Mr Berry objected to tho proposal at the present time, and denounced it as unconstitutional and unprecedented. Sir John O’Shannessy, Mr David Gaunaon, and Mr Wrixon supported tho motion, but the debate was finally adjourned to tho next sitting. The Opposition. A caucus of Opposition members was held yesterday, at which Mr Murray Smith and Mr J. G. Francis wore elected joint leaders of their party in the Assembly. SYDNEY, March 3. Cautionary. It is stated that there is no justification for the present rush to the Grey ranges goldfields, on tho western border border of this colony, as there is a total absence of trustworthy information concerning the prospects of tho ground.
