BANKS’ PENINSULA FARMERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The committee of this newly-formed MBOciation met on Saturday at the Head of the Bay, Akaroa. There wore present—The president, Mr O. McDowal, vice-president, Mr Barnett, and Messrs Ohecklsy, Carry, Ohappel, Goodwin, Field, and J. Duxborry. Rules and regulations for the association were submitted and recommended for printing. Several now names were added to the list of members, which now numbers about sixty. Mr Barnett called the attention of the committee to the impression that had got abroad that the association was exclusively for dairy farmers. He would like the public to be made aware that the association was formed to serve the interests of the sheep farmers as well as others. He trusted soon to see many sheep farmers identify themselves with the movement. While the chief business of the association at the present time woe concerned with the export of cheese, they would not confine themselves to that alone, but would take up other important matters connected with farming interests. The secretary said he had written to tho manager of tho New Zealand Shipping Company asking for information respecting what accommodation would be given to the trial shipment of cheese. No reply had yet been received. The secretary was instructed to send a circular to each member requesting a return of the amount of cheese intended to be sent from each dairy. It was also agreed that the secretary order a largo quantity of Hansen’s patent rennet and annatto for the use of the members for dairy purposes for next season. It was resolved— That Mr Montgomery be communicated with for tho purpose of hia calling the attention of tho Agent-General in London to the trial shipment of cheese.” The association intends shipping to Loudon about thirty tons as a trial shipment, which will be followed by a much larger shipment if tho undertaking is successful. After a vote of thanks to tho chair the meeting adjourned till March 12th.
