News to hand from the West Coast of Africa announces that the Ashantees have collected their army and commenced an advance on Sierra Leone, with a view of prosecuting hostilities against the colony. Mr ParnellMr. Parnell addressed a meeting at Clare to-day, and exhorted his audience to adhere firmly to the programme of action which had been laid down by the League. The African Difficulty. In the House of Commons to-day Mr. Gladstone, replying to a question, made a statement in which ha confirmed the previously announced fact that negotiations had been opened through the President of the Orange Free State to bring about if possible an honorable understanding with the Boers of the Transvaal. LONDON, February 21. The Money Market. Consols remain at 99g. Adelaida and New Zealand bread stuffs are unchanged at last quotations, viz.:—Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 495; Now Zealand, ox ship, 445; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 335; Australian tallow, best beef, quoted at 345; best mutton at 37s 6d. At the wool sale to-day, 7900 bales were catalogued, making a total of 45,800 offered since the opening time. The Mails. The homeward Australian and Now Zealand mails via San Francisco were delivered to-day. PoliticalIn the House of Commons to-day, the consideration of the Irish Coercion Bill in committee of the whole House was concluded, and the Bill reported to the House. The third reading of the measure is expected to be completed without delay. ATHENS, February 21. CAPETOWN, February 21, Telegrams from Natal report that Sir Evelyn Wood left Pietermaritzburg with a largo body of reinforcements, and made a brilliant reconnaissance in force through the Ingogo district, where the encounters with the Boers have lately taken place. News has been received from Blomfoentein that the Parliament of the Orange Free State has passed a resolution authorising the passage of British troops through the State from Basutoland into the Transvaal.
