Cunningham and Co., C. Coster. On Friday fortnight, as the Waitaki, bound for Wangarei, was rounding the North Head, the pasaonaers were surprised by the engines suddenly stopping. Going on deck they saw the light of a vessel apparently coming straight towards them. This eventually proved to be the Government steamer Stella, which, on coming close, r«n deliberately across the bows of the Waitaki. Bat for the care exercised by Captain Edie a collision would most certainly have eventuated. He (Captain Edie) shouted, " Where the d— are you going ?" but no reply came from the Stella. Now, the question arises ought this sort of thing to pass unnoticed, and why don't Captain Edie report the Stella?— Auckland "Observer."
