HEATHCOTE ROAD BOARD.

The above Board met on Friday last at 10 a.m. Present—Messrs F. Jones (chairman), W. Attwood, T. Bruce, and G. Dryden. Mr Dryden apologised for Mr O'Neill's absence. Messrs E. J. T. Ford, W. Langdown, J. Anderson, jun., and E. Hiorns waited on the Board relative to the Sumner railway, and produced sketch plan showing proposed lino. It was decided to go over the ground on Monday, the 21st inst. The works committee reported as follows :— Re lowering Ferry road, that the specification of the Sydenham Borough Council be approved of. lie Parish street, that the path be lowered adjoining, owners to have the option of purchasing surplus earth. Re Smith's road, that the ditches be thoroughly cleaned out, the low places to bo raised. Hargood's road footpath, that the path and side channel bo cleaned, and a slight coating of screenings put on. The report as a whole was approved of and adopted. Re Heathcote Bridges—lt was decided that on payment of the premium for the accepted design, the plans, &3., should bo .forwarded to Wellington for approval. The clerk reported the receipts to be £32 15s. A schedule of the various footpaths was presented, and the portions of the roods referred to was set apart for tho use of foot passengers only. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : —Drainage engineer re inspection of works in district, to be asked for further information. Mr R. S. Macdiarmid re tenders for smith's work. To be informed that the Board had given very careful consideration to the tenders submitted, and had decided impartially in the interests of the ratepayers. The question of division into wards and consideration of the estimates was deferred for a full Board. On tho suggestion of Mr Bruce, the olerk was instructed to obtain information as to salaries and wages paid by neighbouring Boards. After passing aocounts for £153 lis 3d, the Board adjourned.
