A well • attended publio meeting was held at the office of this Board yesterday, at 2 p.m., in reference to the closing of a road along the Cam river, rear the Eaiapoi Woollen Company's works. Captain Parsons, chairman of the Board, occupied the chair. He stated that the notifications relat ing to closing the said road had been duly published and notices ereoted at the ends of the road, as required by the Act. Mr H. Kevell stated that he objeoted to the closing of the road on the grounds that the provisions of the Act in respect to the notices had not been complied with, as sufficient notice had not been given. The number of the section on which the road to be dosed was stated was not given on the plan. The numbers of the adjoining sections hod not been given, and the owners of adjoining sections had not received notice of the intention to close the road. He objected to the road being closed, as upon it was erected a valuable embankment, which was of service to the other residents on the section 319 a. The ohairman asked Mr Bevell to give his reasons for his objection. Mr Revoll said he appeared, not as a ratepayer, but as representing his mother. Mr W. Sansom, jun., objected to Mr Bevell, as he had no loevs standi. The chairman said he would give speakers more license on this matter than was allowed by the Act, and would take a note of the objections. Mr Sansom then proposed—" That the road on the north-west boundary of rural section 310 a, as marked on the plan before the meeting, be closed." Mr Beharrell seconded, stating that, as an independent ratepayer, he was in favour of dosing this road, which really led to no where and benefited no one, when by closing it they might expect to benefit a local industry. LOheers.l The motion was put and unanimously agreed to, Mr Bevell alone objecting. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
