CEMETERY BOARD.

The annual meeting of the Christchurch Cemetery Board was held in the Provincial Hall yesterday afternoon, at three o’clock. Present—Mr Jameson (chairman), Mr Anderson, Bey. H. C. M. Watson, and Mr Langhnan. The Chairman gave a resume of the work done on the public cemetery, the planting, &0., haying proved satisfactory, and the servic s of a person in the district named Campbell had been secured to look after the cemetery. He referred at somewhat greater length to the fact of the several local governing bodies interested having evinced a disinclination to assist in providing a proper means of communication with the new cemetery, which was a matter greatly to be deplored, placing this Board at a disadvantage, and seriously affecting the utility of the cemetery. The treasurer, Mr J. Anderson, made a statement of the accounts for the year, which showed a balance to the credit of the Board of £44 12s lid. He regretted that he was unable to make a more satisfactory report of their position, and intimated that it would be necessary to increase their capital before they could undertake anything like expenditure. Mr Loughnan moved, the Rev. Mr Watson seconded, and it was carried—“ That the annual statement of the treasurer be adopted.” Mr Jameson was then re-elected chairman of the Board for the ensuing year. Mr J. Anderson was re-appointed treasurer. Daring a conversation as to the work to be done during the current year, Mr Jameson again referred to the attitude assumed by all the public bodies that had been consulted in reference to the read leading to the cemetery. It seemed an absurd position to take up that the Board had no funds, and that the bodies interested were not to contribute funds to prosecute a highly necessary and important work, especially as it was perfectly obvious that sooner or later the work would have to be done.

Mr Watson suggested that the chairman should continue to agitato the matter. Mr Jameson remarked that he would sot let it drop, and would at once write the Avon Road Board. The Chairman was authorised to continue the planting. This concluded the business and the meeting adjourned.
