A MAORI APPEAL.
The following appears in the “ Wanganui Chronicle ” as an advertisement: — “ Notice Maoris, Pakeha Maoris, and Pakehei and friends of Liberty without distinction of color or creed, rally to the defence of Te Whiti and his followers, and raise subscriptions to enable them to employ counsel to defend their rights and freedom, to hold possession of their lands in defiance of the attempt of the Native Minister, who has threatened to attack us and force us into war with all our pakeha friends in the North Island. Wo have not committed any acts of violence against the law or the settlers, nor do we wish to do so if we can only get our case brought to a court of justice. Wo do not wish to act as they do in Ireland—-take the law into our own hands ; and your subscribing a little money by cheques and post office orders, also a little flour and sugar, will enable us to remain, as heretofore, loyal subjects to the Queen. Signed, Ngatiraunui, Taranaki, Euapehu, Tongariro. Father Steeple will receive subscriptions.”
