PORCELAIN WARE.
Not long ago, says the "Now Zealand "Herald," we referred to the visit of 2b Juiitioe Gillies to the porcelain manufactory at Hovroj, and to the faot that he was furnished with a ■ ample of the clay used there for the finest wares, for the purpose of comparing it with any similar clays fouiid in North New Zealand. Some of our rural aottlora have been examining the mineral resources in their distriots, and several splendid specimens of the china day or kaolin have been forwarded to Mr J. A. Fond from some of the out-districts. From the county of Mangonui he has recently reoeived some particularly pure specimens of this clay; others have been obtained from districts nearer to Auokland, and altogether there appears a reasonable expectation that this part of the colony contains large deposits of material suitable for the finest olasses of poroelain ware. Now that fresh interest has been excited in the matter, we doubt not that many country settlers will forward samples of •uoh materials found in the several distriots, and thus aid Mr Jastioo Gillies in his selfimposed task of comparing the various samples of kaolin found in this provinoe with the standard sample brought with him from Sevres.
