HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

A meeting othe Board was held yesterday at 4 p.m. Pnent —Mr H. Thomson (chairman), the Myers of Lyttelton, Sydenham, and Christclrch, Dr, Turnbull, and Mr Hawkes.

The Hospal committee reported as follows :

Tho Hospal committee beg to report that during the ast fortnight nine patients have been admittl into the Hospital and twenty discharged, losing forty-three patients in the institution. There were no deaths during this period. The comiittee have received the resignations of Mr anddrs Dixon, the caretaker and matron of the Bpikd Cottage, Akaroa, and they recommendchat a suitable married couple be engaged 1 fill the vacancy. The Sectary reported that, with respect to the *BO of blindness from Patea, Dr. Wilkinr had undertaken it, and he had reported JO that effect to the Patea County Counoi , , A leter was read from the secretary of the Hospiil Staff stating that they would recommend the appointment of Dr. Meikle as hous'surgeon to the Hospital. The letter wenfon to state that Dr. Meikle had had an intefiew with the Staff, and had undertaken to .eep up the case books, &c., as recommended by the Staff. ft. Turnbull moved—“ That Dr. Meikle be artointed bouse surgeon.” The Mayor of Christchurch seconded the lotion, which was carried. The Chairman said that Dr. Meikle had mdertaken to remain in the position for iwelve months.

The report of the Master of the Orphanage was read, stating that during the month of January one boy was admitted and one boy sent out on trial, leaving the number as on December 31st, viz.—Boys, 53 ; girls, 45 ; total, 93. The Orphanage committee also reported having received a donation of £3 lie from the employes of Messrs England and Martin to tho funds of the Orphanage. The Ohsirman said this amount had been put to the recreation fund. The report of the medical officer mentioned that the state of the institution was good, and that the master evinced great aptitude in the conduct of tho institution. After transacting some charitable aid business, the Board adjourned.
