Porker, Esqs., J.P.'s] Laecoty.—Boberb Ltuie was brought ap, charged with ateulirg a coat worth £2, the property of Strange and Co., and Francis Coyne, a pair of booti, value 12a Gi, belonging to John Sheen, and both prisoners were charged with stealing three vests, valuid at 2&a, the property of B. Blaok. Borne formal evidence was taken, and the police stating it was probable farther ohargee would oome forward against.thom, they were remanded till next Wednesday. Chiu> ThibvbS.—The ohildren, Thomas Bail and William Hyland, were brought up •on remand from Thursday charged with stealing eight lamp glasses from Mason, Struthers, ■and Oo.'s yard iu Colombo street. Agnes Beck, 3 little girl, gave very dear evidence as to having seen the boys take the glasses. She spoke to them, threatening to tell Mr Struthers. They told her to clear out. Ellen Hamilton, wife of Alexander Hamilton, of St. Asaph street, deposed to buying ono of the glasses, for 3d, from the boys, who said they Sot them from Mr Phillips. Joseph Carter, ealer, of High street, said the boys oame to his shop and wanted to exohange some of the glasses for marbles, which he refused. The oys admitted the offence. The police said Bail had received twelve hours' imprisonment •and twelve lashes on a previous occasion, for being found on the premises of Mr Wilson. His mother said she was a widow and her parents took care of him. Her father, who was in Court, said the boy would not attend school, in other respeots they hod no trouble with him. The police said there had been no previous complaint against Hyland. The Bench said they might have sent Bail to Bamham, but if he was oonvioted that ov.uld not be done. On consideration they would dismiss the caso against both, on the understanding that their parents administered a severe whipping. This was promised and the boys were then allowed to go. Lunacy iaoH Dbink.—J. A. Smith, who had been sent to Lyttelton gaol for eight days, for medical treatment, now appeared, and was reported by the police as recovered. Ha was discharged.
