CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of tho Board of Governors was held yesterday, Mr W. Montgomery occupying the chair. The report of tho College committee was read, recommending that Professor Hutton’s engagement as Professor of Biology be terminated by giving his twelve months’ notice, and paying £3OO There was ulso a recommendation that tho committee should be empowered to confer with Professor Hutton as to tho terms on which ho would continue bis connection with tho College. The report of the library committee was road, recommending tho opening of the reference library and reading room between the hours of 2 and 5 and 7 and 9 p.m. With regard to tho report of the College committee tho Board agreed to the conference as proposed with Professor Hutton. The Board resolved to adopt the recommendation of the College committee, that they be empowered to engage a teacher of German at tho Girls’ High School. Some discussion ensued on the clause recommending that the fees at tho Boys’ High School should bo fixed at £3 3s per term for boys under twelve, and £4 4s for twelve and over. A resolution to the effect that this scale be reduced by one guinea on each class was negatived, and tho original scale carried. The matter of opening the reference library and reading room was adjourned till next meeting, after some discussion.
