RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of this Council ' was held on Friday evening last. Present— His Worship tho Mayor (J. Johnston, Esq), Oounoillors Boyd, Ellis, Crotbers, Whito, Stephens, and Ivory. Correspondence was read from Mr G. Cone respecting a bridge over the Northbrook. From the town olerk, Kaiapoi, requesting to be furnished with a oop7 of the Rangiora Borough By-lows. From Mr E. Cnthbert, re borough surveying and architectural work. From Mr A. B. Cunningham, ohairman of borough school committee, re co-operation of Council with tho school oommittee to introduoe higher class education in tho borough. From the Commission of Charitable Aid, re cases in Ran.giora. From Messrs Boyd and Koir, fo Ser mission to occupy footpath and road way i uriag removal of a largo building, and to erect hoarding during erection of the new premises for the Bank of New Zealand. From the Colonial Treasurer, re £1 10s credit to borough fund account, being amount of fees collected during present month. Tho chairman stated that he had received an application on behalf of Riohord Vaughan, asking that something should be done for him m the accident that had happened to him deprived him from undertaking laboring work. 'Proposed, soconded and carried, « That Mr Bock bo written to on the subjeot, and Mr March be asked to grant aid until sorno light employment be secured for "Vaughan." The matter of the bridge over the Northbrook was referred to the works oommittee, to report on same at next meeting. 'Proposed, seoonded and carried—" That tenders be called for at once for construction of kerbing, as agreed upon at a previous meeting of Council/' Ro bridge on South town belt requiring repairs, referred to works committoe. Proposed, seconded and carried —" That the thistles growing so luxuriantly on the sides of the outlying streets be out down with a reaping machine (to be hired for the. purpose) and the doy man and Council's horse to do the work." It was resolved — «• That the £6O received for cemeteries be invested at interest, and such sum to be left in the names of the finance oommittee." The elerk was (instructed to advertise and then sue all ownors of unregistered dogs after the Ist day of March, 1881. Ors. Burt, Ivory and Stephens were duly elected members of the worts oommittee. It was resolved—' That this Council considers the establishment of a high school in Bangiora would be very beneficial to the borough and environs, and this Council will give the projeot its oordial support" " That the bylaw relating to hawkers' and pedlars' licenses be strictly enforced in future." The credit balance in the bank was reported to be £167 16s 2d. Tbe accounts, amounting to £63 4s 3d, were passed for payment and the meeting adjonriod.
