[PBESS ASSOCIATION TRLBOBAM.J AUCKLAND, January 29. The Auokland regatta, celebrating the anniversary of the colony, passed off successfully. Tho weather was splendid, and there was a largo concourse of people on board the Lady Jocelyn flagship. Owing to the breeze freshening, the outrigger, inrigged, and sculling matches were postponed till Monday. Champion Eace, for brigantineß, schooners, and ketches of 50 tons register and upwards. First prize, .£100; second, £25; third, .£lO. Cruise from the flag ship round Tiri Tiri and back. BNTBIES.

Caledonia, 58 tons, M. Nicol. Linda Weber, 114 tons, D. H. McKenzie. Edith, 63 tons, Captain Hughes. Sovereign, 85 tons, W. H. Brown. Belle Brandon, 65 tons, T. Henderson, junr. Torea, 78 tons, IS. Mitihelson. Borealis, 130 tons, E. McKenzie. Myrtle, 166 tons, S. Lane. The raoe started at 9.30. Sovereign led from the outset, and on rounding the North head was followed by Torea, with Belle Brandon and Caledonia. On reaching Tiri Passage Sovereign and Torea v/ent through the passage without tacking at 12 30, Sovereign being half a mile ahead of all competitors. The Linda Weber, Myrtle and Caledonia here gave up. At 2 p.m. Sovereign rounded the N.E. point of Tiri, with Torea three-quarters of a mile astern. Edith and Borealis together nearly through ; tho passage ; Belle Brandon half a mile astern of them. At three o'clock Sovereign made her appearnnoe round the North head with every stitch of canvas set and filled with a slashing breeze. She presented a pretty picture as she sailed up the harbor, and was the admiration of thousands of spectators who had gathered on the wharf and adjacent points to witness tho finish of the race. A few minutes later the Torea hove in sight, but it was obvious that the race belonged to Sovereign. Both vessels held their way steadily up tho harbor, the passing of Sovereign being greeted with hearty cheers srom the spectators on the flagship. Torea finished five minutes later, the raoe terminating thus : Sovereign, 3.22 p.m. 1 Torea, 3.28 p.m 2 Borealis, 4.53 p.m 3 The others were out of the running. The steamer Planet, an Auckland boat, was swamped on returning to the flagship. The Edith, sailing in the Champion race, ran into the Planet, smashing her funnel, ■team pipe, and bulwarks, and breaking her own jibboom. Some people on the Planet, fearful of an explosion, leaped overboard, but were rescued. 'lhe steamer was towed to the wharf.
