SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

NORTH KOWAI. Apparently a misunderstandinghad occurred as to the time of meeting, as at seven o’clock only tba chairman of the outgoing committee •nd two others were present. At about eight ■o’clock, however, several arrived, and there ■Were about twenty present during the proceedings. Mr L. O. Williams was voted to the Choir, and as chairman of the past year’s committee went very fully into details of their ■notions during their term of office. A vote of ■thunks to the outgoing was proposed by Mr J. Lawton, and carried unanimously. The election was then proceeded with. Twelve gentlemen’s names proposed, Messrs Lawton and Webber acting ns scrutineers, ond the poll resulted in the return of Messrs Douglas, MoAdam, MoNaught, Purobas, Robertson, Williams, and Wornall. The new committee met afterwards, and Mr Xi. 0. Williams was unanimously elected chairman. ’ TAI TAPU. The annual meeting of householders in this district was held on Monday. Mr Peryman occupied the chair, and read the report, which stated that the number of children now on the roll is 139. The average attendance 110 last quarter. The total amount of income and expenditure for the year was— Salaries, £302 19s 9d ; incidentals, £64 12s 8d; building sites and apparatus, £l6 15s; balance to credit, £l2 Os lOd ; total, £384 17s 3d. The old committee were then reelected as follows :—Messrs B. Forbes, H. Tanner, J. Mangels, H. W. Peryman, J. Watson, R. Bainey, and 0. Barrett. LINCOLN. The annual meeting of householders was Bold on Monday evening last. There were •bout forty persons present. The Bev. J. T. Teakie was unanimously voted to the chair. Mr Herrick, chairman of retiring committee, read on exhaustive report of the committee’s work during the past year, and the annual statement of receipts and expenditure during the same period. The number of scholars on the roll during the year had been—Boys, 96 ; Girls, 91 ; total, 187 s and tho working average for tho year hod boon—Boys, 59.4 ; girls, 53 5 j total, 112 9. The total receipts for the year (including donations, Ac., to the amount of £25 12s 3d) were £515 2s Id, and tho expenditure for the same time £504 14i 2d, leaving a balance in hand of £lO 7s lid. The report and balance sheet as read were adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring committee. Eleven ■candidates were duly proposed, seconded, and balloted for, with the following result—Mr Wolf, 40 ; Mr Doherty, 36 ; Mr Geddes, 34; Mr Meyenberg, 32 ; Mr Taylor, 24 ; Bev. J. S'. Teakie, 22 ; Mr Bevell, 21 ; Mr Bertram, 17 (absent) j Mr Lambie, 16 (absent) ; Mr Young, 2 j Mr Major, 0. The chairman declared the first seven duly elected. On tho motion of Bev. O. Spencer a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman was carried by acclamation. Subsequently to the above election a meeting of the newly-elected committee was held, when Mr J. O. Bevell was unanimously elected chairmen and treasurer for the ensuing year. The following gentlemen were nominated as members of the Board of Education—For the ordinary vacancies, Messrs Peryman and Stevens, and for the extraordinary vacancy Mr Inglis. WEST MELTON. The annual meeting of householders in the Weet Melton educational district was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening. _ Mr -Jones occupied the chair. Mr Hill, chairman of the outgoing committee, read a statement of accounts, showing tho total reoei-t# to have been £269 2s 6d, and expenditure £262 4s 4d. ■On the motion of Mr Ooggin, seconded by Mr Trusoott, the report, as read, was ■unanimously received and adopted, and a vote of thanks passed to the retiring committee. The election of the new committee resulted as follows Messrs Hill, Ooutts, Sanderson, Triokett, and Thomas were re■elootad, and Messrs Ooggin and Jones in place of Watson and Bailey. At a meeting of ■the newly-eleotod committee, Mr Hill was ■re-elected chairman. TEMPLETON. The annual meeting of householders of the Templeton district was held in the school on Monday evening. The attendance was very limited. The choir was occupied by Mr 8. Bailey, chairman of committee, who read the ■accounts for the past year, which bad been audited by Mr John Taylor, On tho motion of Mr Longman, seconded by Mr Dawson, the accounts as presented .were passed, after which a veto of thanks to tho retiring committee was unanimously carried. Tbs following gentlemen were then eleoted to serve on the new committee—Messrs T. Dawson, G. P. Kissel, Ohas. Benjamin, 8. Bailey, G. Luoook, J. Hodgson, and Jas. Jones. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings. At the committee meeting ■subsequently held Mr S. Bailey was re-elected chairman, and Mr G. F. Kiseell secretary. IB WELL. The annual meeting of the householders of the above district was held on Monday evening. at 8 p.m., in the schoolroom. Mr Henry Overton was voted to the chair. The inspector’s report was read and considered fairly satisfactory. Tho annual balance-sheet and report was also laid before the meeting and adopted, after which the following gentlemen were eleoted as a committee for tho ensuing ■year: —Messrs J. Coo, H. Davis, B. Frankish, H. Overton, James Millar, and James Hanstoa and William Laurence. At a committee meeting held immediately after, Mr H. Overton was re-elected chairman. SOUTHBBIDGE. The general meeting of householders was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening last. Thera were over forty present. Mr J. Frame was voted to tho chair. The report of the committee for 1880 was read and adopted. Tho following were eleoted as the committee for 1881: —Messrs W. Graham, -J. Frame, J. Woodbury, B. Webster, A. Cameron, E. O. Staveley, R. Burns. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting. At-a meeting of the now committee Mr ■B. G. Staveley was unanimously elected chairman. ■LBE3TON, The usual annual meeting of householders of the above was hold in the schoolroom on Monday, at eight o’clock. Present—Sixtyeight persons, Ur John Barnett in the chair. The secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet, which, on the motion of Mr Barnett, was carried. The following householders were then elected as a committee : Messrs. -John Barnett, B. B. Jeffery, G. •Bandry, W. Spring, John MoLaoblan, 8. Doyle, and William G. Lunn. The usual votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing committee, and with a vote to tho chairman the meeting terminated. At a meeting of the ■ committee held after, Mr John Barnett was re-elected chairman. WAKANUI. The annual meeting of householders in the ■above school district resulted in the election of Messrs Walsh, Stewart, Loadley, Kilgour, Olephane, Trovnrsa, and Painter. Mr G. W. Lead ley was elected chairman of the committee for the ensuing year. TINWALD, There were eleven householder# nominated ■to serve on the committee at the meeting held in the above school district, and Messrs Joseph Clark, F. Lewis, 0. Jephson, B. Beeves, W. H. Smith, J. Stalker, and Robert Ennis were.eleoted. ELGIN, The meeting in this district had to bo adjourned, as there were only two persons present at’B p.m. SOUTH BAZAIA. The annual meeting was held in the schoolroom, Bafcaia, on SJonday evening. Mr O. Tucker, tho chairman, read tho annual report and balance-sheet, both of which wore adopted. Messrs Hardy, Sharp, Davies, ■Guardor, Byrne, Kemble, and Bowler wore nominated and declared .duly eleoted. The balance-sheet showed —Receipts, £343 Is 7d ; expenditure, £333 13s Bd. Mr Hardy was elected chairman for tho year. It was resolved that a secretary bo appointed, at a ■salary of £lO per annum. LITTLE BIYEE. The annual election of a now committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday voning 24th January. Mr Coop wasvoted to tho chair, and read tho committee’s report and balance sheet for tho your. changes of the teaching staff of the school, owing to the head master’s indisposition for the greater part of the year, the inspector’s report was not satisfactory this year. The school had also become non-central on account of another township springing up higher up the valley, and to remedy this the committee had obtained a new site, and the Board of Education had called for and accepted a tender for a much larger school. The cost of teaching for the year was £269 Is 3d. The balance sheet showed a balance of £6 17s 8d in favor of the committee. The balance-sheet and report were adopted. The of the new committee woe then proceeded with, and the following were duly elected, viz. : Messrs Tyson, Coop, Joblin, Olphert, Greenland, Reynolds, and Walters. A vote of thanks to the chairmen terminated the proceedings. A meeting of the new school committee then took place, when Mr Coop was duly elected chairman. KAIAPOI. The annual meeting of householders was held on Monday evening. About twenty three were present. Mr J. Lowthian Wilson was voted to the chair. The secretary, Mr O, E. Dudley, read the report, which stated that the number of scholars on the roll was 464, the average attendance 335. The annual inspection was held in November, and the report of the inspector was the most satisfactory of ony the school had received. The entertainment for the prize fund was a greater success than ever, and £29 3s lOd had been expended in prizes, cricket material for the boys, and swings for the The total receipts were £1077 17s 3d, of which £913 Os Id had been expended in salaries, £126 16s 9d in incidental expenses, and £3l 14s in repairs, leaving £6 6s 6d in hand. The accounts had been duly audited by Mr O. J. Champion. The report and statement were adopted, and a vote of thanks was passed to the retiring committee. The householders nominated for the now committee were Messrs E. Pamham, T. Pashhy, B. H. Mathews, J. O. Porter, J. Kerr, B. Coup, W. Fraser, and 8. 8. Powell, who were declared elected. Messrs C. Young and B. S. Powell declined. Upon the suggestion of Mr 8. Johnston, the newly-elected members gave their views in reference to the enforcement of the compulsory clauses, being mainly in favor of the some. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings. Mr E. Fornham was subsequently elected chairman of the committee. FLAXTON. The meeting of householders was fairly attended. Mr E. Mnloook was asked to preside, in the unavoidable absence of the chairman of the committee. The report read referred to the progress of the schools, stated that 125 children were enrolled, and there was an average attendance of 95. The receipts for the year were £626 18s 2d; expenditure for salaries £365 Os 9d ; incidental expenses, £6l 17s sd; balance in band, £3 8s 4i. On the motion of Mr Hopkins, seconded by Mr Waiting, the report, which was very satisfactory, was adopted. The members of the new committee elected were Messrs H. Muloock, B. Wright, J. Stevenson, G. Bowling, J. Dawson, J. Bellamy, and B. Hopkins. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr B. M. Wright was unanimously re-elected chairman.
