INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee of the above was held at 4 o’clock on Wednesday at the offices of the Association. The President (Mr R. Allan} occupied the chair. Present— Messrs J. P. Jameson, Oherrill, Howland, Smith, Jenkins, Kirk, Charters, Waller and Professor Bickerton. A letter was read from Mr 8. Poyntz, of Ashburton, announcing that an Industrial Exhibition will be held in that town on March sth, and asking for information as to exhibits to be admitted, and the cooperation of the Association in obtaining works of art, &0., for exhibition on that occasion. The secretary stated that he had replied, giving the desired information. A letter was read from the Barwon Paper Mills Company, of Geelong, announcing the receipt of six hales of flax for the purpose of papor making, and promising to write with the result after the experiment. The chairman stated that with regard to Mr Espenett’s suggestion in the matter of the unrestricted sale of colonial wines, he had seen Mr E. C. J. Stevens, who bad seen Major Atkinson on the subject, and the former gentleman had promised that if no provision was made for the same in the Licensing Bill, he would see that it was attended to, so that they could be retailed as was formerly the case. Mr Smith gave notice of motion for next meeting to alter the times of meeting to the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays in each month. The present number of members was reported as 380. Last year 204 members subscribed. It was agreed to furnish each committeeman with twelve tickets for the purpose of adding to the number of members. After some accounts had been passed for payment, the meeting adjourned.
