ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHOOTB. The above Board met on Friday last at 10 a.m. Prraunt, —Messrs E. Jones (chairman), W. Attwood, J. O’Noil, T. Ernoo, and Goo. Dryden. The works committee reported on the various matters referred to them. They recommended —That 200 yards of motel bo broken for Sumner, viz., Wayland and Martin's streets and the Esplanade ; that the footpath on the Esplanade bo clayed where required, and that Mr Bell promised to put grit on it at his own exoenao ; that the contractor lor the Sumner road put 200 yards of metal on the road from the Marino Hotel to the Shag Rook ; that tenders be called for making footpath from the Marine Hotel to the Pilot bouse j nlso that Mr 801 l wiahes to mako a footpath at the end of the beach if the Board will allow him to put it on about 6£t of the road ; granted. Wilson’s road—That the Board pay half the cost of making this a uniform grade to the bridge on condition that the surplus material is put on the south Hide of the bridge. That pipes be put across the River road by the footbridge at St. Martin’s. That an application bo made to the Solwyn County Council for a grant in aid of erecting two bridges, one on the Hills road and one on the Sumner rood ; also for maintenance of the Sumner road. The report as a whole was approved of and odoptod. The dork reported the receipts to be £62 16s lid ; also that the assessment list was completed and had been advertised. The specification of the Sydenham Borough Council for lowering the Eorry road was referred to the works committee. The deed of concession to the tramway, also order in council, was read and referred to Messrs Jones and Bruce, to report next Board day. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :—Mr Jas. Anderson re Smith’s road, complaining that in making the footpath the clay had been taken out of the centre of the road, and made it almost impassable in bad weather. Referred to works committee. Messrs H. Wright and others, asking that footpaths and side-channels in Pariah street, Now Cambridge, might bo attended to and lowered. Referred to works committee Drainage Board, asking permission to close Drain road, from Phillip’s street to the Belt. Granted, subject to a passage for wheeled traffic being left. Mr S- Thomas, stating that if the Drainage Board oontraotor was allowed to block up the whole of the roadway, ho would he unable to carry on bis calling aa a cab proprietor. The clerk was instructed to forward the letter to the Drainage Board. Mr Worger, enclosing plan of proposed road in R. 3. 175. The Board agreed to accept it on the usual terms. Messrs John Day and others re state of footpath in Horgood’s road. Referred to works committee. Mr E. Outhbort re surveying, &o. To bo acknowledged. Ashburton Oeunty Council re railway tariff. To be acknowledged. Mr J. H. Hopkins re widening Cemetery road. To be acknowledged. Same, with report of Messrs Martindale and Davis re bridges. To bo deferred till Thursday next. A tender was accepted for Barbour street. After passing accounts for £93 Us 3d, the Board adjourned. COURTENAY. A. meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, Jonuary 18th inst. Present Hon. Colonel Brett, Messrs Mathias, Anson and Gough, the Hon. Colonel Brett having boon duly elected as chairman of the Board for the year, the following correspondence was road :—From the Bank of Now Zealand, with regard to fixed deposit of the Board. Resolved—" That the terms offered by the Bank of New Zeeland for the Board’s account for the current year bo accepted.” From the Board’s solicitors, respecting the disposal of the Board’s funds, stating that the same cannot bo appropriated otherwise than in the manner prescribed by section 36 of the Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872, and must bo Said into a Bank pending saoh appropriation [r Anson gave notice that he should at the next meeting of the Board bring forward a motion to have the district brought under the Local Elections Act, 1876. The surveyor having reported to the Board that the approaches to the bridge over the water race at Kimberley had been left in on unsatisfactory manner, Mr Mathias stated that tbo authorities in charge of the water race had made arrangements to have the nroessary work done immediately. Resolved—“ That tenders bo invited for grubbing, clearing and removing gorse and broom from the Hawkins’ River bed, between Baaloy’s road and Collinson’e rood. The valuation roll for the district, as compiled by Mr G. Bedford, who had assessed the district, having been accepted and sundry small accounts passed for payment, the Board adjourned till Tuesday, March Ist.
