The weather was showery to-day, but did not interfere much with the game. Play was resumed at 11.30 by Groube and Slight (the two not outs of the previous day), facing the bowling of Dalgetty and Borton. The former’s first over produced two wides and a single to Blight. In the second ball of Borton’s over Slight was well caught behind the wicket by Walls—s—l7—7l. Boyle filled the breach, and opened by cutting Barton for a single. Three byes were got off Dalgotty’s next over, Boyle skied one to the on, which was missed by Sumpter. He got a fine hit to leg for 4, and another single to the same player brought 80 up. The batsmen played steadily, and increased the score to a century. A change in the bowling now took place, Oooke going on in Burton's place. The change proved effectual, as the second ball of Oooke’s first over scattered Boyle’s stumps—6—22 -107. Blaokham was the new comer, and scored a single. Oooke sent up his third maiden, and a maiden from Millington followed. Gronbe placed one of Oooke’s on to his wickets—7—3o—llo. Palmer joined Blackham, the former getting Cooke away to the on for a brace, and hit to leg, 3 resulting throngh a piece of bad fielding. Blackham gave an easy chance to Denton, which be failed to hold. The next ball Palmer played into Sumpter’s hand—--8—5—116. B'ackham was clean bowled by Millington with next hall —92 —116. Alexander and White, the two last men, now became partners. Millington sent down bis eighth successive maiden. White then gave Dalgetty a difficult chance, which was held. Nicholls and Sumpter were now together. Sumpter out Palmer for 3. Nicholls played one from Palmer on to his wickets— 2 —o 6. Rain began to fall when Walls joined Sumpter. The first named lifted one from Spofforth to the fence for 4. Palmer bowled Sumpter, and Borton joined Walls. The last-named again sent Spofforth out of bounds for 4. Immediately after Walls was run out. 4 —l0 —19. Dalgetty was bowled the first ball from Palmer. Oooke slipped Palmer for a single, and the next ball he sent back to the bowler—6—l—2o. Fenwick after adding 3 singles was bowled by Palmer. Hartley got a flukey single, which was badly fielded by White, Spofforth then bowled Dalgetty—--8—1—24. 2 to Gilly, the same number to Borton and Knottier 2 to the same bat and 30 appeared. Gilly skied one, which Alexander held—9—3 and placed one to square leg, a single resulting. The rain here caused the players to seek shelter in the pavilion. The shower lasted about half an hour. A single to Borton was the result of Spofforth’s next over. Borton was then bowled by Palmer after making 11—10 —11—39. De Latour joined Denton. The last named lifted Spofforth to square-leg for 3, but in the next over the Dr. was bowled by Palmer. Moore replaced Da Latour. Denton now made the hit of the match, he lifting Spofforth right over the fence for 4. A single followed, when Denton was bowled by a shooter from Spofforth —12—13—51. Finch joined Moore, who was bowled without scoring. Finch added a single, and played one to Alexander—l4—l—s3. Booth and Gray were now in. The former opened by a clean drive to the off, and four byes brought 60 up. Booth was caught—ls—4 —6o, _ Millington joined Gray, and made a single. A maiden from Palmer followed, and Millington was run out in Spofforth’s next over with-

[out scoring—16—o—6l. Eice joined Gray, but the rain name again, and a rush was made for shelter. On resuming Rice snicked one to leg for 3. Several maidens followed from both bowlers. Gray, who had been playing steadily, was well b -wlaH by a ' winter from Spofforth—l7—3—6B. Hewitt, the next m-n, gave a chance to Blackburn, which was 4,.. dined. Rice slipped Palmer for 2, and a hit to square leg for 4,2 byes, and a 3 to Rice brought the last named >nlo double figures. Palmer bowled Hewat. Will was bowled the first ball, and Coates did not trouble the scorer. Church was the last man. Bice sent a full pitch from Palmer to the fence for 3. Spofforth sent down his eighth maiden in succession, and Ohnrch was run out, Bice carrying out his bat for a well got 17. The innings terminated for 88 runs. It wag raining hard when Oamarn took the field for the visitors* second innings, and at about a quarter to six Boyle‘ and Spofforth went in to bat, Cooke and Millington bowling. Off Millington’s first over 4 runs were scored. Spofforth then out Cooke neatly for 3, and two singles brought 10 up. Another single, then Spofforth got Millington away to the fence for 4. Several stolen runs were taken very cleverly. Time was called before the required number was made, Boyle and Spofforth being not out with 9 and 8.
