There was a fair attendance present. Mr Attwood was elected chairman, and the following gentlemen were duly elected as a committee— Messrs Keighley, Berry, Waites, Palmer, Attwood, Wise, Tishmarsb. Mr Woodford moved a vote of thanks to Messrs Attwood, Berry and Palmer for the interest they have taken in school matters in this district. Seconded by Mr Tisbmarsh and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting. The committee afterwards held a short meeting, when Mr Attwood was elected chairman and treasurer, and Mr Wise secretary for the ensuing year. OPAWA. There was a numerous attendance, and Mr E. J, T. Eord occupied the chair. The report which was adopted, stated that the attendance had increased, the number on December Slat, 1830, being 144, against 122 on the previous year. The report further mentioned that the attendance was very irregular, many children having failed to attend the number of times required by the Act, The compulsory attendance clauses of the Act have been brought into force during the year, and several notices issued to parents requiring them to send their children to school. Except in a few cases, these have not had the desired effect, and the committee strongly recommends that proceedings be taken during the coming year against those who have ignored the warning, and that notices be ,issued to others who are known to be keeping their children away from school. The receipts, including a balance of £lB Os Id from the previous year, amounted to £491 12s lid, and the expenditure £474 14j lOd. The following were elected as the now committee—Messrs E. J. T. Ford, R. Gould, J. G. Restell, 8, Graham, G. Duncan, Q-. Weaners and O. Revans. At a meeting of the n«w committee held subsequently, Mr Ford was elected chairman, and Mr Revans secretary and treasurer. LYTTELTON. The annual meeting of the committee was hold on Monday night, when there wore present, Dr. J. T. Rouse (chairman), Committeemen Turner and the Revs. Townend, Hill, and Beck. There was just three householders present, or rather five, including the representatives of the Press. The report as j follows was read and adopted

The committee in presenting its report to the householders for the year 1880, is pleased to testify to the continued general prosperity of the school. The attendance has considerably increased during the year which may be, to a great extent, attributed to the better of the teaching power in the infant school inducing parents to take advantage of this branch of the school. The following is a statement of attend-

i ance during the several quarters. On roll, , March quarter—End of quarter, 687; strict , average, 553. June quarter—Fnd of quarter, 673; strict average, 508. September quarter— End of quarter, 687 ; strict average, 530, End of quarter, 716; strict average, 565. The inspector’s report for the year 1870, received in February last, is very satisfactory, the school being spoken of by him ns of excellent character, which the committee trust will stamp the report ' shortly to be made for the year that has just expired. The committee have, with the greatest regret, to record the resignation of Mr u. U. Webb, ns chairman and member of committee, consequent on his removal to Christchurch, which office he had filled for many years. Mr Webb, as yon are all aware, was an honest friend in the cause of education during his residence in Lyttelton. The chair has since been filled by Dr. Bouse, and the vacant seat on the committee by Mr J. Wilford Smith." The committee have to report the resignation of several teachers during the year. Mrs Kelsey, the lady referred to in the last report, who filled the position of infant mistress, resigned in April. The committee was exceedingly sorry to lose her, as she was a lady highly conversant with the Kindergarten system, and would, undoubtedly, have brought the infanta on thoroughly, ’i he vacancy was, however, well filled in June by the appointment of Miss P. Ockford, who bad for some years been studying the Kindergarten system at the Normal school, Christchurch. Much progress is noticeable in the school under her teaching, and the attendance, as already stated, has considerably increased. Miss Hobbs, assistant mistress, Mr Dyer and Mias Keaud, pupil teachers, have_ also resigned. Miss Hobbs’ resignation was received with some regret, as she had worked heraelf _np daring the seven years she was connected with the school to be a most useful teacher. The buildings are in a very good state of repair, and are kept clean and tidy by the janitor. The playground, however, is in a very unsatisfactory state in wet weather. The committee during the winter obtained leave from tha Board to procure a quantity of gravel from the ships coming into harbor at that time with shingle ballast, but unfortunately were nnable to procure any that would suit tho purpose The committee, in conclusion, have great pleasure in recording a vote of thanks to those ladies and gentlemen who so liberally assisted the prize fund, as also to bear testimony to the zeal displayed by the Head Master and teachers during the year. J. T. Bouse, Chairman of Committee. The full receipts for tha year past were stated to have been £267 13i Bd, and the expenditure to £251 odd. The following were elected a committee : Dr. Donald (chairman), Messrs Bouse, Turner, Townend, Hill, and Allwright. SOUTHBROOK. The annual meeting of householders here was fairly attended. Mr J. Wethers, chairman of committee, presided. The report read showed the school was in a satisfactory state, with an average attendance of 100 scholars. The want of a pupil teacher was painted out, as at present the mistress had to take charge of’ a larger number of scholars than she ought to be expected. Tho total receipts were £384 6a Id, and after paying salaries and expenses, a balance remained in hand of £5 3j Bd. The new committee elected comprised Messrs Wethers, Watson, Thompson, ilatcliff, Turner, Hooper, and Thomas. At a meeting of tho new committee Mr Wethers was re-elected chairman; Mr Thompson, secretary.
