[beuteb's telegeam.] LONBON, January 24. Change of WeatherThe cold weather which has prevailed for some time past is now moderating. A general thaw is taking place, and the Thames is rapidly becoming clear of ice. Central Asia. Fresh news has come to hand from Central Asia regarding the war between the Russians and the Tekke-Tarcomans. The former, under cover of a bombardment, carried the Turcomans' position, close to Geok Tepe, and afterwards made a desperate assault on. the trenches, but were heavily repulsed by the Tekkes. The fighting on both sides was most severe.
ATHENS,' January 24. The Greek Difficulty.
The Greek Government is strongly opposed to the proposal of the Porte that a conference should be held at Constantinople to determine the frontier question, and extensive preparations are still proceeding throughout Greece for the increase and mobilisation of the army, with the intention of obtaining the required cession of territory from Turkey by force of arms, if necessary. CAPETOWN, January 23. The New Governor. Sir Hercules Robinson has arrived here to assume his position as Governor of Cape Colony.
