CORRESPONDENCE.

THE POLICE AND THE PUBLICANS. To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —As one of the public, let me thank you for your outspoken views on our social defects. Bnt with your permission, I would suggest that you have omitted to mention one fact of importance, which may explain the action or want of action of our police, viz., that a number of the hotelkeepers in Canterbury are ex-policemen, and are favored by their “active service ” brethren accordingly. You do well, Sir, to arouse public opinion to compel these myrmidoms of the law to do their duty. They surely will not dare to impose upon their employers muoh longer. Yours, &o. t PATERFAMILIAS. Durham street, January 21st, 1881.
