ADDINGTON PAROCHIAL FLOWER SHOW.

The third annual flower show took place in the parish school-room, Addington, on Friday, January 21st, and whether judged as a local exhibition or upon the merits of the flowers, fruit, pot plants, and vegetables shown, was a decided success. The various exhibits were staged between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., the doors being thrown open to the public at 3 o’clock, and a large amount of patronage was accorded, Messrs D. Nairn and Sons sent some choice specimens of palms, and also a nice assortment of pot plants for exhibition only ; and in this class Mr W. W. Griffiths also showed a really fine stand of twelve dahlias. This gentleman also exhibited a stand of verbenas of very good merit. Mr Hepworth exhibited a very nice collection of pot plants, also a stand of verbenas, one of which—a new variety, “The Duke,” noticeable for its large petals and good form—attracted a large share of attention. A nice collection of phlox drummondii was also shown by him. Mrs T. B. Craig exhibited a very fine collection of pot plants and cut blooms. _ The children’s section was well filled with a

variety of exhibits, which showed _ careful culture, the flowers and vegetables being very good indeed. The adult section was _ well represented, Mr B. Unwin, jun., showing a fine assortment of vegetables, and Mr George Green’s collection of eight kinds of potatoes comprised ail the best kinds. The specimens of handicraft by boys of the parish was represented by a box with lid, made by a lad named Downing. In the girls’ class the specimens of needlework were both numerous and commendable. The show was a decided improvement upon that of lost year, and the Rev. H. East, upon whom the principal labor in getting up the affair has fallen, may be congratulated at the success achieved.
