NAPIER RACING CLUB. [PBBSB ASSOCIATION TBIBGBA.M.] NAPIER, January 10. The Racing Club's annual meeting to-day was fairly successful, though the fields were all small. Maiden Plate of 40 bovb. One mile and a half. Mr Douglas's Pawcnata, Bst 111 b __l Mr Hislop's Algebra, 9st lib —2 Mr Murray's Laverock, 7st 111 b Novelty also started. Rawenata, who was the favorite, had the worst of the start, but at the mile got in front, and won easily. Hawke's Bat Cup, of 200 eova. Two miles. Mr Murray's Merlin, 7st Clb 1 Mr Hislop's Moanatairi, 7at 21b 2 Mr Walters' Grand Duchess, 7at 81b ... 3 Soukar and Loch Lomond also started. The betting in the totalisator was 2 to 1 against Merlin, 3 to 1 Grand Duchess and Soukar, and 5 to 1 the others. A bad start was effected. Grand Duchess, who went off with the lead, kept it for a mile and a half, and still appeared full of running, when the favorite who had been waiting went to the front, winning hard held by two lengths. In the straight Moanatairi passed Grand Duchess and secured second place. Selling Race of 30 bovb.; one mile and a quarter. Mr Powdrell's Hero, Bst lib 1 Mr Hickey's Little Wonder, Bst 71b 2 Mr Wilkin's Transit, 9st _ ... 3 Mr Page's Merlin was a warm favorite, but he bolted at the end of half a mile. Hero then had it all his own way. After the race his owner bought him in for £3l. Ladies' Purse, of 40 eovb. ; two miles. Mr Farley's Angler, list 21b 1 Mr Jones' Tare, list 21b 2 Mr Powdrell's Hailstorm, 1J at 51b 3 The others were scratched. Hailstorm was the favorite, but Angler jumped away with the lead, and won in a canter by ten lengths. Hailstorm pulled up at the distance. j
