OUR THOROUGHFARES.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sir, I wish to draw public attention to the disgraceful state of several streets, and more particularly the main thoroughfare of Colombo street. Some members of tho Counoil are always finding fault, and frequently without any just cause, of the Tramway Company; hut it appears to me the only part of the street that is in fair condition is that which the said company keep In order. Just look at the pits and holes on both sides of the line, sufficient to break the springs of any heavily laden dray, and yet the works committee allow the city surveyor to keep on heaping up hundreds npon hundreds of yards of broken metal in the Market square and other places, on purpose to annoy the residents in thoße neighborhoods. I suppose, when the winter is half through, and the streets are soft and muddy, somebody will begin to waken up to the idea that it ia time to put the metal on the streets. Will no member of the Council rise to the occasion, and Bee that something like common-senso shall prevail at the Council Board. Yours, &c, A RATEPAYER.
