The patronage given to tho two steamers now competing for tho trade between the Port and Pigeon Bay was so liberal yesterday that Mr Chilman, of H.M. Customs, deemed it necessary to count the passengers on both the Akaroa and the Titan, an undertaking which resulted in shutting ont a considerable number of wonld-bo excursionists. There were probably between eighty and ninety on board the Akaroa and abont an equal number on board the rival steamer. A great many spectators assembled on tho jetty to witness the departure of the two boats. The Titan was tho first to leavo, followed! by the Akaroa. Both steamers returned in time for tho leaving of the 2 p.m. train from Port, the excursionists having apparently enjoyed the trip immensely.

After a stoy of about two years, the schooner Clyde has changed hands, having lately been Surobosed by Mr Sawyer, of Lyttelton, who remght down quite a small army of carpenters, and soon put her into sufficient trim to take her away to Lyttelton, where she is to be put on the slip and thoroughly repaired, preparatory to her going into the timber trade.
