AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

[Bp Telegraph.] [Per s.s, Bingarooma, at the Bluff.] ADELAIDE, January 11,

The Chimborazo struck on Marion’s reef, Troubridge shoal, in the Gulf of St. Vincent, at three o’clock on Sunday morning. Three tugs immediately went to her assistance, and eighty passengers and the mail were taken off. The weather was calm when the vessel struck. The cause of her grounding appears to have been that the haze led the captain to imagine that Troubridge light was six miles off, whereas it was only two and a half. Not much damage was apprehended, and a number of passengers remained aboard. The vessel remained in the same position until Sunday night, when lightering commenced. By the aid of the strong tug the Chimborazo floated early in the morning, and made for the Semaphore, having suffered no apparent damage. The Adelaide Marine Board met yesterday to consider the advisability of holding an enquiry into the stranding of the Chimborazo, but defects in the Act were pointed out. However, it was resolved to hold an enquiry, and summonses were issued to the master and officers to attend, but the steamer having sailed no enquiry is possible. HOBART, January 11,

The Tasmanian revenue last year was £437,000, being an increase of £71,000, and £13,000 in excess of the estimate. New taxation realised £58,000. The revenue exceeds the expenditure by £19,000. BRISBANE, January 11.

Further news of the massacre of the crew of the Prosperity by the natives of Moresley Island states that the men were beheaded and their remains smoke-dried, and afterwards placed in the mission house as trophies. The ship Chance, from the South Sess, reports that the Tanna Natives fired on the Jabberweok’s boats. The news that the Maglata Natives also captured the schooner Borealis and murdered the crew, except the captain, is fully confirmed. The schooner was regained by the schooners Flirt, Stanley, and Dauntless.
